I worked at Verisk Analytics full-time

    Pros

Awesome leaders and super friendly environment. Benefits were very fair and you were encouraged to grow and improve. Overall a great place to work.

    Cons

Certain departments lack clear job responsibilities. Local religious culture was extremely prevalent and could lead to awkward interactions.

    Advice to Management

Try to define each team member's roles clearly. Aside from that, management did an excellent job and I always felt that I was welcome and that my opinions mattered.

Real good work/life balance. No heavy hours, bosses listen to you.

    Cons

Not a lot of work to be done. Not much opportunity to advance because it's such a small branch within a large branch in the SF office.

I worked at Verisk Analytics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The team dynamics was really good. All teammates worked towards achieving the department and company goals. Work environment was relaxed.

    Cons

    - Low salary as compared to industry standards and there is no transparency in deciding the compensation.
    - Untrained managers don't know to get things done and as a result micro-manage their direct reports.
    - There is no challenging the status quo. Many systems require remodeling and rethinking how business is being done, but new ideas are not encouraged.

    Advice to Management

    - New managers need to be trained on how to work with employees.
    - Increase salary for most of the employees as it acts as a form of motivation.
    - Explain paths for employee growth.

    Pros

Excellent company overall, great training, upbeat corporate culture overall

    Cons

If you're in a department that is not well run, it's not an option to apply to transfer until having worked there a full year.
Also, workplace is diverse but the atmosphere favors the particulars of certain diversities much more than others.
PLUS: Managers sometimes delegate too much to team leaders and do not check out situations for themselves. This leads to "she said"-"he said" (etc.) situations and unfair discipline based on seniority but inaccurate info. if team leader is immature, petty, etc.

    Advice to Management

Managers need to become more aware of office subculture within their teams, created by team leaders who may be good workers but poor supervisors/trainers.

I have been working at Verisk Analytics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Truly amazing work/life balance. I always thought that saying was a myth until joining this organization.

My colleagues are some of the brightest and most genuine people I've ever worked with. My co-workers truly make the workday fly by.

Benefits are excellent and the options are plentiful.

Great location with lots of places to go. Right outside of the Newport PATH...making for a seamless commute.

    Cons

Business units are siloed and it often feels as if we are working against each other instead of working together. There is a clear attempt at top-down transparency, however most of it is the typical "this is what we're doing now, what we're doing next year" things. Most of which is known already.

Workspace is old school layout, computers are ancient, which makes working efficiently and effectively a daily challenge.

Working from home (if you qualify) is a new concept at this company believe it or not. Working remotely is considered a privilege...something that you are regularly reminded of, as if you're a child.

Compensation is fair depending on the job...but be sure to negotiate for the salary you really want before you accept the job. Annual increases are poor at best. Unless you are in a sales position, your bonus, after taxes, is equivalent to a cost of living increase.

    Advice to Management

There are some lifers at the organization that have zero experience with business practices outside of Verisk. Not sure how to fix that...but good ideas are often lost to "we've always done it this way" mentality.

Business units need to be more cohesive when working with one another. I witness too much 'us vs. them' when working on projects.
