    Pros

As part of RR Donnelley the company processes are improving

    Cons

Old habits die hard and not everything has improved. The agreements with clients put all the risk and pressure on the staff and with growth that has increased which leads to continued turnover

    Advice to Management

Let's staff to minimize the day to day pressure or don't agree to known unrealistic timelines. Clients appreciate the honesty and continuity on their accounts. There is some give and take but Sr leadership is not willing to entertain this idea.

    Pros

You can wear jeans almost every day.
On most days it was fine to come into the office around 9:00.
The money was good, but I would consider it Combat Pay.

    Cons

You are on call and expected to respond to all emails 24/7/365 within 30 minutes of receipt - even if you are on a call with another client; even if you are in a meeting.
The SLAs are unreasonable for the staffing that they have.
I was never recognized by management for any of my good work or efforts.
The colleagues were completed stressed out and burnt out, so tensions were always high, and everyone is snippy with one another.

    Advice to Management

Make a decision: either staff up so you can meet yours SLAs, or change your SLAs to what can be achieved with the staff that you have.

    Pros

It's a job. You get paid to be miserable and mistreated by your manager. It doesn't take long before you realize you made a mistake accepting the position.

    Cons

Very stressful environment with terrible senior management. Most managers are groomed from their Leadership Development Program, too young and inexperienced to behave in a professional manner. Employees are treated poorly and are never appreciated for their hard work. No reviews. No raises. The overall culture of the organization is oppressive and miserable.

    Advice to Management

Behave in a professional manner. You need to realize that people have a life and family outside of this miserable environment you have created.

    Pros

Part of the CGX stable of 70 companies which covers basically every facet of the printing industry. Good program (LDP) for entry level people and recent college grads.

    Cons

There are a little bit over the top with their LDS program and tend to move people into positions where they are under qualified and their inexperience is exposed.

    Advice to Management

Scale back the LDP program and concentrate more on filling needs as opposed to advancing people. Create an environment where there is less autonomy between the sister companies.

    Pros

Your co-workers are great and really get through the trenches with you. You have the opportunity to work on a lot of difference projects and experience a lot of unique clients. You also learn to be thorough and efficient in your work.

    Cons

This is a very stressful and low paying company in most of the careers. They have a very high turn around and don't seem to mind it. Advancement is very unlikely as there are no upward opportunities and very little lateral options once you become semi-competent in your initial line of work. You are also expected to answer your email/phone at any time, even on days off.

    Advice to Management

Draw the line between working hours and time off. Also, provide benefits or rewards of some sort to those who work hard to keep your business going. Provide training and support for all employees. Show that you actually care about the company and the culture rather than just reacting when something goes wrong.

    Pros

Plenty of new things to learn technology wise.
Plenty of room to move up in your career.
    Close to train station

    Cons

Management sees bodies rather than a employee.
Project managers are rude and think they own the place. Managers are always missing in action and hardly involved. Nasty spaghetti code that is VERY outdated and needs improvement. Management constantly talks about improving code base but never actually acts.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employees. Don't over work your team members and hire more people so you can actually replace the horrible code base. GO AGILE.

    Pros

The office is close to the Metra stop.

    Cons

Read the reviews of Consolidated Graphics. This is a CGX company and those reviews are accurate. Communication from senior management does not exist. Escalations to management go nowhere. When the eventual disaster happens the CEO steps in to yell. This is the Veritas leadership. The daily working environment is chaos having no processes for application development , project management, or operations. Nothing is documented. Best practices are never learned - in a short period of time you will see the same mistakes happen over and over. The technology is not impressive and the code is frightening. The benefits are really terrible. The working environment is a cement floor with no windows. Animosity between groups is chronic. There is no employee review process. The exit interview is an opportunity for you manager and CEO to argue, tell you off, and tell you "you can't handle it" not listen any attempt at thoughtful feedback.

    Advice to Management

Management does not care for any advice.

I worked at Veritas Document Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There was a lot of opportunity to learn new things at Veritas. There was always a shortage of people, and plenty of work to do, so if you wanted to help out with something different, people welcomed you to explore tasks outside of your normal job description.

    Cons

The work/life balance here is not good, most people are given an iPhone on day one and are expected to be on call 24/7 (including vacations). Benefits were absolutely horrible as well, you were nearly better off getting private insurance.

    Advice to Management

Begin to change the culture so that you don't see such high turnover. When everyday is a fire drill, people get burnt out quickly.
