I worked at Verizon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Only good thing was good benefits

    Cons

Very poor work-life balance, toward the end no regard for their employees. Good benefits, use to have Telecommute but it was taken away for no reason

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits package overall among the best

    Cons

Middle management is broken, not equally recognizing efforts of peer employees.
Lots of double standards and favoritism. Bending rules for brown nose favorites. Little to no concern from HR or Director Level for personal health issues or following doctors written letters about the employee's medical needs (Reasonable Accommodation).

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone equally as adults, let 1 standard or benefit apply to everyone. If individuals abuse a privilege (work from home) don't take it away from others that didn't abuse it. Especially not if just giving it back to just certain favorites.

    Pros

Excellent benefits, 401k match, and great work environment. Verizon is a large company with opportunity to network.

    Cons

Challenge to be promoted. Oftentimes, it's who you know; not what you know.

    Advice to Management

Promote good workers. Open more job opportunities and enforce employees' career development.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

High salary, OK comp plan. Minimal cold calling "We are Verizon".

    Cons

Massively inefficient, overlays and support simply aren't paid incentives and do not care.

    Advice to Management

Streamline ancient processes, incentivise sales engineers and everyone assisting sales. They get high salaries with no commission and do m=not care that much about assisting with anything.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and competitive pay, several areas of growth in the business especially for dev hardware/software groups.

    Cons

Company culture changed in the last 5 or so years. They seem to be more concerned about "the bottom line" with no employee appreciation or attempts at keeping those that contribute to the company, which will hurt them in a the long-run as more seasoned employees move to greener pastures and are replaced with less-skilled, less loyal temp/contractors. The most recent reorganization and layoff seems to have been the largest negative impact to employee morale in at least a decade (and we've weathered many re-orgs over the years).

    Advice to Management

You best assets are your employees - take care of them, recognize their accomplishments, allow them to grow and improve their skills and they will continue to make your business a success. Sr Leadership also needs to communicate better to explain the changes, and it would be good to have a more transparent process in place for internal hiring.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, lots of opportunity to switch positions (and move up) within the company, flexibility

    Cons

Not sure company is making right decisions to stay competitive

I worked at Verizon as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay for contract employees is better than any other industry or company, even with the lack of any stability, insurance, vacation, etc. Great equipment to work with and the obvious - free mobile device, plan an other goodies.

    Cons

No collaboration, communication, common sense, listening capabilities or good solutions. Very slowed, slow to make decision, but when they do its ALWAYs bad and in the opposite direction of profit and common sense. More focused on shareholders, money and salary of the top VPs. Cut throat environment.

    Advice to Management

Clean house from the top down, not from the bottom up.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Room to advance
    Recognition of accomplishments
Regular raises, bonuses, and lump sums into 401(k)
    Friendly coworkers
    Responsive management chain
Chance to work on new technologies

    Cons

If you're in Operations then you'll be subject to the cyclical layoffs that occur. That's just something that comes with the territory.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! I have never felt under-utilized or unwanted while working for Big Red.
