I worked at Verizon as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

No Pros. Nothing special about working at verizon anymore

    Cons

IT Management has no idea what they are doing. They are disrupting the organization for cost cutting without making sensible decisions.

    Advice to Management

    Grow up

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great employees - very dedicated. Benefits are on par with a company this size

    Cons

Leadership is in turmoil. Majority of leaders came form Verizon Wireless and are trying to manage this market the same. They don't fully understand this market and set difficult achievement goals. If not met, they make the goals higher. Counter-intuitive.

    Advice to Management

Let go of the Verizon Wireless model and embrace the telematics space for what it is.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging, fast past environment with great co-workers

    Cons

Not all management is aware of their employees functions and cannot support those employees.

    Advice to Management

Look closer at what they are truly focusing on within their work group, many managers do not deserve the position and are only focused on getting ahead, even stabbing others in the back.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary was slightly above standard. Lots of long term employees. Best benefits I ever had.

    Cons

Executive management didn't care the slightest bit about the average worker. The CFO ridiculed various teams during his quarterly presentations to the entire finance group . Didn't support any sort of flexible work arrangements. Lots of initiatives were planned and abandoned. Others were implemented with out planning. Very limited advancement.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Normal big company benefits but nothing great. Verizon Wireless phone discount. Easy to sell customers most things because of Verizon name. Some good people here doing the actual work.

    Cons

Entire company run off of Excel spreadsheets instead of multi-million dollar CRM systems already in place. Little concern for client satisfaction. Old time management of not rocking the boat to try and survive instead of thinking out of the box to fix the issues which would ultimately lead to customer and employee satisfaction. Many long term employees have figured out how to deflect blame onto others to survive to the point it's a much valued and feared skill here.

    Advice to Management

    Clean house

    Pros

Company has a lot of resources and talent

    Cons

Complete lack of direction, leadership and strategy. Company is struggling to define its position in the market and has done a terrible job integrating its acquired companies and resources.

    Advice to Management

Need leadership and long term vision with proper investment rather than focusing on short term cutting costs.

    Pros

Big company with all the bells and whistles that come with working for a big telephone company. Great place for women and minorities to succeed.

    Cons

Big Telephone company trying not to be a big telephone company and not succeeding. Dilbert lives!!!

    Advice to Management

Putting on a pair of jeans doesn't change the big telephone culture

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Verizon is strong company with a great leadership position in the market place.

    Cons

Verizon Wireless was a great place to work. Unfortunately with the merger with Verizon landline business, the culture has changed. To pay down the debt to acquire the full share of the Wireless business cutting cost and people is the way management wants to move forward.

    Advice to Management

Instead of cutting good people that put you on top of the Wireless world to pay down your debt, try growing the business.
