I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good pay
    Good benefits- start day 1
    Good commission
    Provided free phone
    Good corporate events
Freedom to be your own person

    Cons

    High quota
    Poor work/life balance
    Retail hours
    Micro-management
Management checks relies on employee performance, leads to micromanagement and pointless coachings and daily reviews.

    Advice to Management

Offer better training instead of cutting corners to save money. Less micromanaging

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits were ok. Off time available for charity work or company functions. Town hall meetings were great. Upper management was approachable and friendly.

    Cons

Middle-management wasn't very professional, bad hours despite good performance, too much is based on seniority, favoritism and cliques are a MAJOR problem, the employee discount on phone service is a joke and they tell you there is no contract but there is.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your customers and your employees. Instead of crowding the call centers just let your employees work from home. It saves everyone money and judging from how competitors are attacking the company in ads you'll need it. Re-read the statements on the company's mission, culture, and values and you'll see how far you've strayed. You can't provide quality service at a low cost at the expense of the employees tasked with providing it.

I worked at Verizon as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no pro except maybe paycheck

    Cons

Working there was like working in a sweat shop. Management does not respect employees. I had to stay late to attend meeting and was asked to not report those hours even though I was a contractor.

    Advice to Management

Treat contractor with respect and dignity.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of great people, potential for growth, challenging work

    Cons

Heavy bureaucracy makes it difficult to get work done. The company has changed over time and shifted focus from employees to unattainable growth goals. Sizable layoffs are occurring every couple of years.

    Advice to Management

Make Employees First something more than just a tagline. People work really hard for you, yet employee sentiment is that you really don't care as much as you did in the past.

    Pros

No Pros. Nothing special about working at verizon anymore

IT Management has no idea what they are doing. They are disrupting the organization for cost cutting without making sensible decisions.

    Advice to Management

    Grow up

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great employees - very dedicated. Benefits are on par with a company this size

    Cons

Leadership is in turmoil. Majority of leaders came form Verizon Wireless and are trying to manage this market the same. They don't fully understand this market and set difficult achievement goals. If not met, they make the goals higher. Counter-intuitive.

    Advice to Management

Let go of the Verizon Wireless model and embrace the telematics space for what it is.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The employees at Verizon are the strength of the company. The network team is the backbone of the company. It's the employees that make and drive the company's culture.

    Cons

Don't plan on retiring here, especially if you are a non union CWA employee. Once employees get over 40 years old and 15 or more years of service to the company, they get laid off. Even the stellar employees get the dreaded pink slip. The 40 + 15 crowd gets too expensive, so Verizon shows them the door. 15+ years of compounding merit increases along with 5 weeks paid vacation and rising healthcare costs means you cost way too much money to the company. Unless you are in a senior leadership position and play the political game exceptionally well, you have no chance of surviving the dreaded 40 + 15. So you get shown the door and they replace you with someone half your age and pay them a fraction of what they were paying you. Welcome to corporate America. Verizon is no different. When they say "our employees are our greatest asset" what they really mean to say is "our shareholders' cash is our greatest asset". The shareholder is king.

    Advice to Management

Show loyalty to your employees; the same loyalty they have shown you for years. Your employees are not fools. They see what you have and continue to do their former coworkers. And many of them now work in fear. They wonder when their number is coming up. They dread the 40 + 15. They know their days are numbered.
