I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally stable, good benefits packages, decent pay. Many talented co-workers so there are good opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge

    Cons

Work environment is terrible; to save money, management is cramming more and more people into the same office space, making the environment stressful and counter-productive. Despite obvious detrimental impact on employees, management is continuing the process because, seemingly, they really don't care about the employees

Culture is deteriorating quickly; lots of politics and back-stabbing. It wasn't like this before but under the current CEO, things have gone downhill significantly

    Advice to Management

You tell employees that they are the company's most important assets, but then ruin the workplace environment to save a buck. If employees are valuable, then treat them that way. If not, then tat least be honest about it.

Figure out what you want the company to be. If you want to be in advertising, then please put someone in charge who actually understand that business. As is, you are burning money on poorly-thought-out forays into business areas you don't understand.

The credo says that we don't make decisions based on ego. You might want to revise the credo because right now, ti seems like most strategic decisions are based entirely on ego. The company is developing products that they want to sell, not products that people want to use or buy.

You are running a once-great company into the ground

I have been working at Verizon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Comparing to my previous experience, really nothing special. Salary payment on time.

    Cons

Too many people treating the place as retirement home. No drive, no risk taking. Very frustrating to get anything done. Mgmt very inexperienced in people management and no opinions asked when moving people, "my way or highway" type mentality. Still dress shirt mentality, for fun I break it every day and get looks :-)

    Advice to Management

You have two years to get the company revamped. Modernize, not only internal propaganda, real things! Break the barriers.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is good. Benefits are excellent. Working in Basking Ridge, you can network a lot with management.

    Cons

Old fashioned work culture, lots of workplace politics, no work from home. Sometimes expected to work long hours. Entry level positions are given a lot of boring busy work.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the shift into a more modern work culture. Verizon is trying so hard to be a well-rounded technology company but its still stuck with an old school Corporate Telecom Culture.

    I worked at Verizon full-time

    Pros

The company's benefits package is better than many other employers in the region. Not much more than that.

    Cons

Politics and personal demographics trumps professionalism at this company. The culture is very toxic. They had a great business plan which generated tremendous cash flows, but the company leadership in intent on abandoning that business.

    Pros

Great zen-like workplace environment (beautiful indoor/out), lots of athletic, health-conscious peers, diverse and intelligent peers, supportive management and strong team-work value. Strong value placed on independent work and minimal leadership.

    Cons

Many organizational changes eliminated departments but the associated work, budgets, invoices, didn't go away. Tough to track down who would take this on when the original personnel were no longer with Verizon. Good for fine-tuning investigative skills; challenging to keep political skills fresh.

    Advice to Management

Keep the conversation going with your team!

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Lot of value for trully smart people. Most leaders are very open minded.

    Cons

Lots of old cultured people still left who only want to be project managers and not do any real work

    Advice to Management

Grow your young talent faster. Decrease the bonus portion of salary to make it more equal to the market.

I worked at Verizon (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is lot of opportunities to stay with the company long term and make competitive wages.

    Cons

Constant restructuring and mismanagement makes for a tumultuous environment. Many people do what they can to "survive" without being open and adding maximum value to the business.

    Advice to Management

Open up management to those who provide new thought leadership and have a strong POV. Test often and fail fast. You have a lot of great assets but people who aren't hungry enough to put them to good use.

    I worked at Verizon full-time

    Pros

Facilities are nice. Good cafeteria. Half off cell phone bill if you have Verizon. Meet lots of talented people and interact with many business groups. Lots of opportunity to travel domestically and internationally if you're in the right dept. Compensation is competitive across departments. Working for an industry leader.

    Cons

The location can be a pain to get to, most people seem to have long commutes unless you have been there long enough to afford the area. The traffic can get bad. With that being said, company should be more flexible with work from home or give more vacation days.

    Pros

    Cons

Slow to change. Not very innovative. Very top-heavy and filled with "yes men"

    Advice to Management
