I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has great values, compensation, and benefits, and it's given me the opportunity to do some of my best work. The environment is generally professional and positive.

    Cons

Verizon is absolutely brutal with RIFs. They make very little effort to find a spot for excellent people whose projects get cut--it's pretty much self service.

If you like stability, this may not be the place for you, because it tends to be a roller coaster ride.

HR tends to be stretched thin and unresponsive to those who don't have fancy titles (i.e., director and above).

It's a huge company, and has the bureaucracy that comes with the territory. Aging internal systems can be a real struggle to deal with. Completing a purchase of office supplies after an upgrade should qualify you for a minor combat medal.

    Advice to Management

You've invested a lot in finding the right people--why not invest a little more in trying to keep great people with transferable skills?

More effort is needed in making sure the company's good values make it all the way down to the rank and file.

    Pros

It's a great organization with a lot of opportunities to learn new things .
