      Staying Optimistic

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Verizon Media is a progressive company with expectations of individually driven employees. Everything is self-help. It is a great environment for subject matter experts who can self manage. The company is big on communications. There is a regular cadence of weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings with executives. Work-from-home has been an added benefit during COVID, and the vast majority of my colleagues adapted quickly to this home-is-work "normal". I have enjoyed a lot of opportunities, work flexibility and great benefits under Verizon, that I am not sure are available anywhere else.

      Cons

Poaching. What happens when a company has a lot of high performing, subject matter experts that are self motivating and wake up with big ideas? They get recruited. It's great that someone is high-value and Verizon Media is made up of great employees, but turnover is tough even when a colleague leaves for a great opportunity. If you can't adapt and help train people, Verizon Media is going to be frustrating. The Apollo buyout is a disruption, and it is TBD what the positives and negatives are of relaunching as Yahoo. The only thing we know for sure is, our great Verizon Wireless discount will go away at some point.

Steady downhill progression over the last few years

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good benefits, kind and smart coworkers, communication during COVID was more than expected/helpful, great ERGs.

      Cons

Growth is difficult, once you're in a position and you didn't negotiate well, you're out of luck. Now that the acquisition is happening, leadership is painting a rosy picture, yet we're experiencing high attrition. We're losing talented people everyday and can't replace them fast enough. It could be due to the acquisition, but this was going on before. Teams are overwhelmed/understaffed and there doesn't seem to be solutions coming from leadership.

A Pretty Solid Place To Work

May 24, 2021 - Senior Account Strategist in New York, NY

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Super intelligent people that are very team oriented. A lot of them are "lifers" meaning they've been there 10+ years, which means either they wanna be there or they're secure. Regardless, I'm pro-security and pro-wanting to be there. Compensation's generally respectable depending on your IC (Individual Contributor) level Work Life Balance is pretty good too. Most people left between 4 and 6:30pm Mondays - Thursdays but on Fridays people left earlier.

      Cons

Clients are awesome but as is the case with any role in digital advertising, they can be either annoying or completely radio silent. Not sure what your cup of tea is but yeah I've only seen two extremes. Though they promote moving around within the company, it takes a minute to move around within the company. Many deserving candidates get passed up for managerial positions every promotion cycle which is the case when everyone's smart and good at their job.

      Great Place to Work

Jun 7, 2021 - Strategic Solutions Manager in New York, NY

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Verizon Media has gone through some...transformation over the years. Overall they've done an unprecedented job merging too behemoth, legacy media companies, and shaving off what didn't work and empowering what does. Benefits, people, and everything in between is on par with competitors, so no complaints.

      Cons

Middle management unfortunately is saddled with bottlenecks - half the time not of their own volition - and is never given solutions/as much help as they need to unblock their own and direct reports' work.

Great career launch pad, Verizon name carries weight

Apr 27, 2021 - Associate Manager - Business Development in New York, NY
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      • Many areas of opportunity to contribute and grow outside of your main role • Great benefits, 401k matching, flexible time off, ability to travel to visit teams • Extremely well developed diversity & inclusion efforts • The Verizon name carries real weight in the digital media, advertising and tech space. Putting in time really helps your resume/LinkedIn when looking for your next gig.

      Cons

      • Verizon Media went through years of acquisitions and reorgs that slowed progress and caused infernal confusion. Went through multiple new managers and upper management in 5 years. Company is just now coming off of the bumpy trend. • Recent selloffs of brands and shuttering legacy products impacted morale • Some of the most hard working people are here, but also some people are just here for a check. Definitely have to navigate individual work ethics.
