I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They provide decent training courses such as ITIL.

    Cons

Organisation across the board is very process heavy, rigid and very focussed on satisfying internal requirements, opposed to focussing on their client base. There is little room for rapid response to client needs which feels very restrictive.

    Advice to Management

Live up to your credo; "we focus outward on the customer, not inward".
Improve the interfaces between departments so orders can be turned around faster.
Reduce the amount of paperwork required to fulfil internal requirements so your staff can focus on their clients more.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Exposure to the mechanics behind the business drivers. An ability to influence business decisions. Attractive salary packages.

    Cons

Silo mentality, poor middle management communication, lack of trust in employees. No coordinated IT roadmap to rationalise systems (legacy systems never shut down effectively).

    Advice to Management

Work harder to ensure a clear message is effectively driven through the business. Work better to close down legacy systems. Trust your teams.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Nice salary, good office facilities

    Cons

Alot of internal IT systems support has been outsourced to their Indian offices or other companies. This can be nightmare getting any redevelopment or testing of new systems done.

    Advice to Management

Although outsourcing Internal IT systems is cost effective, you may need to ensure there are some higher calibre employees within these new outposts that can actually understand problems and can support and test legacy and new sydstems properly
