I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can't think of much as compared to what others offer in Silicon valley.... Standard perks

    Cons

The company is too slow, takes ages for any decision. Really trying to make revenue by buying off companies instead of nurturing talent inside. Seems like Verizon is playing catchup game with other new giants without much knowledge of how to run Software centric teams.

Salary is way below standard (HR strongly disagrees though)

    Advice to Management

Verizon needs to come out to selling phone plans mentality, this is 21st century and the old school people need to retire. Nurture the best talent, reward high performing employees.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits. Best in class.

    Cons

So focused on meeting goals and metrics stopped caring about what is important.

    Advice to Management

You have good, tenured employees that planned on retiring from Verizon leaving. These people are leaving good paying positions that aren't easily replaced. There is obviously something wrong with what you're doing.

I have been working at Verizon (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big Company, nice benefits leveraging scale

    Cons

frequent changes in corporate direction, no longer interested in cloud, security interest is medium at best...

    Advice to Management

figure out whether you want to be a services company or the telephone company leveraging IOT and media to get more out out of mobile phones and IOT enabled devices.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Stable Company with good benefits

    Cons

re-organization and layoffs constantly occurring. you tend to feel like a number at Verizon and upward mobility is very hard despite it being a large company unless you are politically connected. Wireless is viewed as superior for some reason and FiOS and VES are treated as second class citizens at the company.

    Advice to Management

Your people are your #1 asset. Without morale and trust, they will never support your company and customers to the best of their ability. more honest communication about the long term plans of the company if there are any would also help.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You can have some work-life balance in some roles. Pay and benefits are good, for some. There are many good people who work there.

    Cons

Verizon is constantly undergoing reorganizations and "transformations," as they try to figure out how to transition from a phone company into something else (still unknown - digital something-or-other company). Downsizing is a constant, year after year. I've been laid off twice (but found new jobs internally), and now my function is being "transformed" - meaning my job is being moved to another state. Three strikes, you're out!

And don't forget the unionized employees striking every three years when their contract expires. "Strike Duty," now known as "Emergency Work Assignment" is the worst thing I've ever experienced. Try driving around in a company repair van, doing a job you have no idea how to do, while union "mobile picketers" follow you around screaming obscenities at you, and management back at the garage is totally unhelpful and pressures you to complete jobs. Totally insane.

When you get back to standard operating, the level of executive fire drills and slicing and dicing of internal reporting, in an effort to spin numbers to look like things are improving approaches total insanity. Rats must flee the sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

None. Executive management at Verizon think of themselves as gods.

I have been working at Verizon full-time

    Pros

Lot of opportunities in the team I worked for; trying to be a tech company

    Cons

Lot of politics; trying to be a tech company but needs to start behaving like one

    Advice to Management

Need more openness and communication; Need to be more in line with tech companies around; Need to get rid of old school processes that delay launches

I have been working at Verizon full-time

    Pros

Salaries are good but make you vulnerable to layoffs.

    Cons

No room for advancement or job security for those that work hard. Layoffs every quarter. Management doesn't protect their good employees, but instead layoff their best and brightest. Continuous Offshoring of jobs. Substantial overtime with no recognition for job well done.

    Advice to Management

Layoffs with no one left to pick up work is making it impossible for those left behind to do their jobs. Foundation is crumbling and soon we won't be able to fake the appearance of a good company to those on the outside.
