I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to work on really big projects with Big Data that is actually big, not just "too big to fit in a spreadsheet".

Good compensation and great work/life balance.

    Cons

Feels like working for "the man". You are a number, not a name. You will be filling out TPS reports. The place is big enough that there are too many places for weak workers to hide. Devoid of culture.

    Advice to Management

Increase the quality of the talent pool. Emphasize quality hires over filling seats.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can't think of much as compared to what others offer in Silicon valley.... Standard perks

    Cons

The company is too slow, takes ages for any decision. Really trying to make revenue by buying off companies instead of nurturing talent inside. Seems like Verizon is playing catchup game with other new giants without much knowledge of how to run Software centric teams.

Salary is way below standard (HR strongly disagrees though)

    Advice to Management

Verizon needs to come out to selling phone plans mentality, this is 21st century and the old school people need to retire. Nurture the best talent, reward high performing employees.

I worked at Verizon (More than a year)

    Pros

NONE None None None None, you have to enter 5 words.

    Cons

It is Verizon and the culture is..."That is how it is...get use to it...the Verizon way..." Innovation is dead, but they sure think they are innovative. The worst Director I have ever had, worst Boss ever, was at Verizon. A truly cruel human being. An all lip-service corporation.

I worked at Verizon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Compensation & Benefits
    Too big to fail

    Cons

    Widespread Nepotism
    Inexperienced Leadership
Deteriorating company culture due to hiring practices
    Terrible Diversity

    Advice to Management

The nepotism is out of control. The environment in the N. San Jose office feels hostile because it is so unbalanced in terms of diversity. I've witnessed bullying from upper management on green card workers, absenteeism, uncouth exchanges from leadership, cultural misdirection, intern scandals and contractors not being compensated on time and some contractors have not been compensated for years because their terrible accounting system. But that's just it...there's no accountability across the board here.

Please hire better HR and please get qualified and trustworthy leadership in place. If I look around the office and I see 95% of one sex & nationality....there's a problem. When hiring people for management positions there needs to be extra vetting. I shouldn't have to work with a person whose product experience boils down to completing a Lynda course. When certain members on the team are sitting around for more than 6 months at a time doing nothing but twiddling with their phones or surfing the internet...there's a problem. If the entire team is asking about said individual and has no idea about what the person is working on and is not given an answer...there's a problem. I have witnessed so much dysfunction and the misallocation of resources on a scale I'm not comfortable with. Please correct this toxicity in the work environment because Verizon will continue to lose talent if this is allowed to continue unchecked.
