I worked at Verizon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They provide decent training courses such as ITIL.

    Cons

Organisation across the board is very process heavy, rigid and very focussed on satisfying internal requirements, opposed to focussing on their client base. There is little room for rapid response to client needs which feels very restrictive.

    Advice to Management

Live up to your credo; "we focus outward on the customer, not inward".
Improve the interfaces between departments so orders can be turned around faster.
Reduce the amount of paperwork required to fulfil internal requirements so your staff can focus on their clients more.

    Pros

Access and opportuntity to work on a wide range of projects and programmes of varying degrees of complexity - often with large global corporates in a wide range of industries.

    Cons

Limited scope for carreer progression in EMEA as the company is first and foremost a US Corporate - I cannot recall anybody following any noticeable development plan which led to a promotion.

    Advice to Management

Recognise the talented people and reward them where appropriate. Highly skilled and experienced employees will continue to leave in the pursuit of career progression.

I have been working at Verizon as a contractor

    Pros

Unlike other companies, contractors are considered a part of the organization and are pivotal to its success. Hence, you do get a chance to make decisions and get involved at every stage.

    Cons

The leadership has good at giving directions and ideas, but lack of process to ensure people have authority and are held accountable. The top management is disjointed from what's happening at the ground level.

    Advice to Management

Roll up your sleeves and work with the team to see through the real challenges.

    Pros

Free coffee....Free air. Clean toilets. Car parking. Nice cantine and several outlets selling food and drinks

    Cons

Too many captains too many admirals and too many isolated teams not working together. This company is sinking in Europe, too expensive, too slow, bad slow or incomplete delivery of services

    Advice to Management

Simplifiy, modernise, cut management layers, get people to work together.
