I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere, good people, good training, lots of opportunity if willing to relocate, decent pay

    Cons

Not flexible, retail hours, continually worse commission structure hurting pay, high stress for sales numbers, dealing with angry customers, time off hard.

    Advice to Management

Don't have 10 calls throughout the day to have managers report numbers and then threaten when numbers are low for whatever reason.

Benefits were great, matched 401k, training was excellent.

    Cons

Bad decisions by corporate, often effected employees on the front lines. Too many forced policies with little to no input from employees.

Have peer groups consisting of front line employees help with policies and procedures instead of force feeding with no input.

    Pros

At the begining compansation was very good over the years they slowly took away bonuses and commission was altered where you made less and less each year.

    Cons

Managers on up love to threaten job security for eveyone below them!!! Many good sales people left because of this and found jobs in other industries altogether!!! All they care about is $$$ to the point you cant even help customers in store because it will affect your numbers negatively.

    Advice to Management

Treat your people the way you want them to treat the customers...and stop with the threats to job security!!! Start actually doing right by your customers instead of making your sales people and managers come up with garbage policy verbage that the upper management make up for us to spew. People are not stupid!!!

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very competitive pay. There is a great ability to make a lot of money with this company. The health benefits with Verizon are unbelievable.

    Cons

While Verizon preaches a "work/life balance" it is still retail based, which means it is often difficult to spend the time, or even get the time you would like with your loved ones. Also, they talk a lot about the ability to move up in this company but if you don't get on the good side of the right people, honestly, grease the right wheels, then it is nearly impossible to advance.

    Advice to Management

Tenure with the company does not seem to carry ANY weight at Verizon. Besides myself, I know of several other people in my same job title who are unable to advance their careers simply because the people above them do not agree with their management style.
