I have been working at Verizon Wireless (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Almost all of the people are great to work with. Lot's of talent.

    Cons

Not a lot of collaboration. You're pretty much told what to do, even if it's your area of expertise and what you've been hired to do. You can offer your opinion. But it won't matter.

Contractors are not employees. You will be treated like a contractor.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees and contractors equally. Trust employees/contractors to do their jobs correctly.

Terrible growth opportunities outside the two major hubs in Texas and New Jersey unless working Retail or Operations, executive team still slow to execute.

I worked at Verizon Wireless (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Middle management is full of good people. Benefits are among the best you'll find. Pay is very competitive. Job security, barring layoffs, is impeccable.

    Cons

Too much red tape and politics. Promotions are hard to come by unless you have the right relationships.

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits and compensation.

    Cons

Verizon Wireless has gone downhill quickly after becoming part of Verizon Communications in 2014. Restructuring and layoffs occur constantly and the company treats employees like numbers no matter if they perform well or poorly. With wireless phone growth flattening, the company is struggling to find a new area of growth. Executive team is good old boys network. They make large decisions impulsively and at the recommendations of over price consulting firms they hire instead of employee suggestions / recommendations. CMO Diego Scotti was hired to disrupt business but is not qualified to market a technology company.

Career opportunities are largely based on your ability to relocate anywhere int he country at a moments notice. HQ in New Jersey which is not a desirable place to live, but has the most career growth.

    Advice to Management

Stop bending over backwards for what you think the shareholders want by trying to increase profits at the expense of employees and customers. Start running the company responsibly with more transparency and both the employees and shareholders will respect you more. Customers and employees need to come before shareholders not the other way around.

I worked at Verizon Wireless as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a fun experience and the people were great. I was only there for a short time but would like to go back anytime. The pay was good, I was able to create my own schedule for completing certain task. Overall great experience.

    Cons

Not much to complain about only thing would be that I couldn't work there and longer. The reason I couldn't was because it was only a short internship.

    Pros

Pay for commission is good. Great sales training. Products are positioned to sell with strong marketing and advertising.

    Cons

Most managers treat you like robots and don't care at all. There is a huge disconnect from corporate and the front-lines. Poor leadership among managers. They don't want you to think even if you make more sales that way.

    Advice to Management

Management micro-manages. Most of managers aren't good sales people so they don't know how to coach you, but they think they do. Role-playing doesn't work. It is juvenile and reduces morale when you force someone to fail. People learn best from success not failure. Explaining both roles in the sales situation and they having the person repeat it back works best. A one size fits all approach is ineffective for some individuals, so management should adapt to coach each individual in the way they learn. This involves communication intelligence and strong social skills. Most of the managers didn't have these traits, so they should be developed.

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

-Fast paced technology evolutions and roll-outs
-Meaningful purpose behind the work (connecting people, work efficiency, public safety)
-Advancement opportunities, especially if willing to move for positions
-Superior benefit and total compensation programs

    Cons

-Sometimes difficult to understand or see alignment from planning phase through to execution

    Advice to Management

Continue to push the innovation message and find compelling products and services that will drive revenue growth and satisfy everyone's aspirations to be considered a technology growth company and not just a transport network. Continue support of STEM education (e.g., NAF). Ensure the Credo is modeled at every level and every position in the enterprise.

    Pros

Great Place to start out at and there is a ton of opportunity working for this company. I gained a lot of knowledge about the wireless and technology industry. I was able to work with a lot of great companies; ranging from established tech companies to fast-growing start ups. Competitive environment.

    Cons

There are a lot of politics involved in the office. I you are not into a compedative environment then this is not a job for you.
