I worked at Verizon full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Unlimited overtime, great training, relaxed environment, and great benefits.

    Cons

Commission is tiered. You have to meet certain targets before gaining any commission. All calls are funneled through Inside Sales call center so you have to deal with a lot of non sales related calls.

    Advice to Management

Five minute huddles each day isn't enough personal development. Spend more time on coaching and developing and not "reviewing" calls

I worked at Verizon full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Big Company with benefits of big company - great business sector to be a part of - great benefits - plenty of opportunities in multiple disciplines - great people - fantastic philanthropic arm - located everywhere, so you can live where you want - good balance of work/life

    Cons

its a big company, and with that you get... - lots of politics - constant reorganization - requires unlimited approvals to move any project forward - slow to change, despite "changing" constantly - if you care, you will be frustrated in what you do - conference call culture. You will be on conf. Calls continuously

    Advice to Management

    - HR. Far too many directors and above who seem to have lost the "drive", "spark", "energy" that got them there in the first place. This isn't a individual issue, it is an HR issue - HR. Review upper management compensation. If Verizon is doing its job, you'd think it would be seeding the business world with leaders in the industry with big ideas. But that isn't the case. It seemed that upper management... employees never left the company on their own to pursue other opportunities. If nobody leaves, it leaves no room for new blood and new ideas to move up, so you end up losing good people and you become a "group think" company. -HR. Managers should be rated on how well they are developing future leaders. There are some at Verizon that are absolutely top notch at this, there are others that are only interested in their own career path, and what chair they'll be sitting in after the next reorganization Verizon has a lot of very bright people who are not incented with a growth mindset. HR should focus less on cubicles, and more on how to cultivate a growth mindset.

Corporate culture would lead to lack of personal coaching and development. Not feeling valued

Empower your employees more to be creative and trust in then don't micromanage.

I worked at Verizon full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Verizon has great benefits. Great people working for them. They have a great product in their network.

    Cons

They are reimaging the business and always looking for the higher gear. It is exciting but also scary as it makes one uncertain about the outlook of the organization.

    Advice to Management

Communication is very important to help employees know the goals and direction Verizon is going.
