I worked at Vermilion Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Good long term incentives.

    Cons

They promise you the world in your interview. You will soon realize after it's all smoke and mirrors. Micro managing. They don't promote the best candidates. Rules and policies only apply when it is convenient for them.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic with the policies they push on employees.

I have been working at Vermilion Energy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Some great people to work with. Great corporate events like Lake Louise. Compensation used to be good.

    Cons

Horrible at times if you’re a female. Management and HR play favourites. Lacks the soul and integrity it once had. Previously I would brag about how great Vermilion was. Would never do that now. Staff often disrespected when respect was once a core value at Vermilion. Question integrity of some senior management and business operations.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with respect. Make operating with integrity in all things a priority and expectation for management and staff.

    Pros

Salary is the best thing here

    Cons

There are a lot: Micromanagement, Lack of trust towards employees, employees must deliver and errors are not allowed. To much work - significant understuffed Work/ life balance does exist on paper and in job adverts but not in reality

I worked at Vermilion Energy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The compensation is fair. The offices are nice, although not in the core. Vermilion generously supports the community with many charitable events.

    Cons

Company values of Respect, Trust, Teamwork, and Excellence are not a part of Vermilion culture. Management can't be trusted. The company lacks sensitivity to human issues.

    Advice to Management

Morale is low. One reason is the policies on dress, vacation entitlement, working from home privileges and number of working hours in a day vary between departments and managers.

I have been working at Vermilion Energy full-time

    Pros

Smart and engaged colleagues and a fast paced, at times rewarding, workplace.

    Cons

Increasingly poor treatment of employees, to the point of deceitful. Management micromanages while all others are not given authority or decision making responsibilities. Work life balance is a joke.

    Advice to Management

To be the best oil and gas company in the world begins and ends with its employees. Try treating them as people as opposed to a dollar figure.

I have been working at Vermilion Energy full-time

    Pros

Salary and benefits. Company has a Philanthropic bent.

    Cons

Difficult if female. All operations women (outside of HR) with any authority demoted. Difficult if non-engineer. All non-engineer staff with any authority demoted in favour of engineers, some with less than 6 months at company. President is American and brings the USA litigious approach. Core company values are a myth if President perceives interference with his agenda. Philanderer and favors American... friends. HR group is massive reflecting on number of HR related tracking transactions and corporate staff numbers. HR members are feared due to executive level influence. HR business partners will not hesitate at going above supervisory head to achieve HR agenda. Very political, very camped (guarded) departmental environment. Attempting to affect change where it is desperately needed can be an exercise in international career threatening relations.

    Advice to Management

Consider being equal opportunity from a professional/functional/gender perspective. Layoff some HR staff. Canadian leadership. De-camp: departmentally working with each other.

I worked at Vermilion Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good salary, great benefits. Stocks were a perk. Hard work was recognized and reflected in bonuses and raises. Management is engaged and willing to listen to employees. Lots of team bonding and building events. Overall, this company has maintained the close feeling of a smaller company through their growth and success. Employees are valued.

    Cons

Hard to advance as no movement in company. Employees tend to be very long term. It is hard to go in as a Junior or even Intermediate level employee and grow your career as there are many senior employees.
