I worked at Vermont State Employees Credit Union for more than 8 years

    Pros

People Centered philosophy, and wonderful culture . VSECU has been actively working toward becoming the "Best Place to Work in Vermont" and this initiative is working. Compared to what it was a few years ago, it's a completely different organization.

    Cons

All non-retail jobs are in Montpelier or Waterbury

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!!

I have been working at Vermont State Employees Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is a good size. Large enough that there are opportunities available for growth, but small enough that you can feel that your role has an impact. Management is approachable, and there's a real concern for taking care of employees. There is also considerable freedom at all levels to make decisions and propose changes.

    Cons

Lack of structure. However, with this comes the freedom described above, so this can be both good and bad.

    Advice to Management

Keep going in the current direction, toward greater transparency and communication with employees. Focus on developing your employees.

I worked at Vermont State Employees Credit Union full-time

    Pros

The people you work with are generally great

    Cons

Management has no respect for employees. Lots of turnover and a lot of long time employees left the company in my time there.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with more respect and compassion.

I have been working at Vermont State Employees Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

With other FIs the emphasis is on sales. Not at VSECU! They are a member driven financial cooperative that places the member's need above selling a quota of products each month. Taking care of the member is the focus of this organization who is willing to try new things, listens to their employees by welcoming their input and suggestions. I have worked in the Financial Services Industry for over 30 years, and the... local decision making is a thing of the past at previous employers. I am able to advocate for my members and their best interest. Teams are collaborative and inclusive and best of all the company directory is on a first name basis! The work is fulfilling and as a new employee, I feel totally welcomed in any of the branches and departments.

    Cons

Some areas are stretched thin, personnel wise due to locales.

    Advice to Management

    Identify and fast track projects!

I worked at Vermont State Employees Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's easy to get in the door at this company.

    Cons

You'll be expected to do the work of 10 people all at once. They still hand write account cards here! Nothing is efficient and systems aren't integrated. Management provides no support when you need help. It's very easy to burn out. Will not accommodate disabilities or listen to employee ideas.

    Advice to Management

Senior management really needs an overhaul. So many people have been there for too long and aren't receptive to new ideas. You expect your employees to do to much work with manual and inefficient processes.
