    Pros

A lot of freedom and opportunity to learn various tests, unsupervised work after training, wide variety of different tests, and security is nice.

    Cons

A few employees pipette concentrated nitric acid with little to zero PPE nor caution and fail to heed warnings and safety, fellow employees are very sensitive to new ideas as many of them have been working there for 10+ years, everything is very old, rusty, outdated, and looks as if it hasn't been cleaned in over 15 years.

    Advice to Management

Listen to both sides of a story before making a decision.

I have been working at Vertellus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    The pay is good
The employees below a certain level still care
They offer a decent Insurance and 401K package
So understaffed that you may keep your job until the owners finish extracting every penny out of this former great company

    Cons

    Horribly maintained equipment
Management is the worst I've ever dealt with.
Upper management is all about lining pockets with unearned bonuses
Middle management and engineering staff have no real clue how the plants and equipment run beyond their computers

    Advice to Management

Fire the president and hire someone that is concerned with making the company successful instead of just ripping the money out. Just because management performs at the level required for bonuses does not mean they are doing good work for the company as a whole.

    Cons

Senior Leadership team at Corporate office are incompetent. Bankrupt company that the bankers formed a team to keep the company afloat to get their money out. NO consistency, break every rule, don't follow laws, or OSHA requirements. SCARY

    Advice to Management

    Take some Leadership Courses

I worked at Vertellus full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It is a great place to gain hands on experience in the lab with various instruments and to work with a small team of lab techs and a development team. The compensation is competitive and fair, benefits are good, and scheduling & shifts take a bit of getting used to. Lots of free days and paid time off.

    Cons

No room for advancement to development. Very routine work and does not change very much, management was sub-par but was getting better under new management when I left and she was working on improving the working environment, very communicative, concerned.

    Advice to Management

Get the lab techs involved in challenging projects. Do not leave a lab tech on 2nd or 3rd shift for more than 6-8 months at a time unless they volunteer to stay on but consider others' desire to work such shifts if they should.

    Pros

Vertellus is a great place to learn as a new engineer. Engineers are given a variety of tasks and a lot of freedom to work on projects. Average 401K matching, good dental and vision insurance, and average health insurance.

    Cons

The middle and senior management works the engineers very hard, with the expectation that you will work 55-60 hrs a week with little recognition of your efforts. Raises are minimal, no bonuses for salary employees (although hourly employees are bonus eligible) and the only advancements are within manufacturing supervision.
