    Pros

In research the atmosphere is generally good and most of your colleagues are great people aside from the few outliers. Overall experience will definitely depend on your manager/supervisor and how they feel you should progress.

    Cons

Corporate decisions are tough and people can be let go without notice or sites closed. It sucks, even if it logistically makes sense.

    Advice to Management

Seems like changes new changes may be for best. Be more transparent and less cryptic about intentions. Organization structure could still use some improvement.

I worked at Vertex Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

Great people; great location; great products for CF

    Cons

Very, very fast paced! Management may want to clean house of leaders who are toxic

    Advice to Management

Don't ignore toxic VPs that have been in position for years - may be reason for turnover

    Pros

I really enjoyed being an intern at Vertex, I was in an R&D role at the company. My manager was very excited about having an intern and had a great project for me. I was able to have a say in what I was doing and get direction and help at the same time. I felt like I was treated as a team member in the group and not below others. Great location.

    Cons

It was difficult to meet other interns outside of my department. There weren't really events for us to get to know each other until the end of the summer. Also, I am an undergraduate but the department I was working in doesn't hire many people directly from undergrad, they prefer them to have graduate degrees of some sort.

I have been working at Vertex Pharmaceuticals (More than a year)

    Pros

The company as a hole is very good to work for. They have excellent values and benefits for their employers. The work is meaningful.

    Cons

Promotions are slow and they tend to underpay people. Promoting from within isn't a practice I have noticed yet and they tend to hire people above their level at times. HR is very slow as well, when getting hired they were not very easy to get a hold of.

    Pros

Great people, great culture, great company. Maintains a start-up culture, despite the moderate size of the company.

    Cons

Depending on department, work can take much longer than you'd like because of all the restrictions and regulations.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing forward and maintain the current innovative mindset. This company is capable of great things, but they're still at risk if they get complacent.
