I worked at Vertica Systems (Less than a year)

    Pros

Colleagues are smart and friendly, they're willing to help interns. My mentor is very insightful and helped me a lot. And the jobs is challenging, interesting. Feel lucky to work with them.

    Cons

Used an second-hand laptop for working, it's cumbersome and slow.

I worked at Vertica Systems (Less than a year)

    Pros

They had a great low-key intern program. I learned a lot as a QA intern and it was a summer well spent.

    Cons

There weren't really any cons, to be honest. I had a good summer and the internship was a great career builder.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in your intern program. I enjoyed my time and I think that my internship at Vertica was a great experience

I have been working at Vertica Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting work with no limit to what you can learn from some extremely brilliant and talented people. After the startup phase, the work/life balance became more reasonable, but even when it was nuts, it was fun. People truly felt like they were making a difference.

    Cons

Almost zero PM presence in the engineering division. No marketing/product requirements, some projects came out of nowhere, and one micromanager caused 30% attrition by making a few talented, hardworking contributors feel extremely frustrated and marginalized. Also, the office move to Cambridge was unfortunate for those who accepted the job offer in a suburban locale but later got stuck in Route 2/Alewife mayhem.

    Advice to Management

It's a shame that a single insecure manager can create a hostile work environment. Senior management should have careful metrics for reviewing those who are adept at "managing up" and consider talking to that person's staff to find out how people really feel.

    Cons

None, if you are not happy there is because you don't look it for opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Engineer team, keep up the freedom to give everyone the opportunity to work in that they enjoy the most and move to different projects.
Even if you want hire more people do not settle, keep looking for the bests.

I worked at Vertica Systems full-time

    Pros

Being a small company, they make you do some really relevant work - I built a tool that customers had actually requested, but none of the full-time employees had time to build (due to bug fixes / other features requested).

    Cons

Lacks some of the typical internship perks that many other companies have

    Advice to Management

Keep it strong and keep growing! :)

I worked at Vertica Systems full-time

    Pros

Entrepreneurial spirit persists! Cutting edge big data technology and constantly moving with new products and markets. Vertica has a deep commitment to customer experience and excellence.

    Cons

Being part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and all that ownership entails: it could be great security having a large corporation behind a smaller enterprise. Or, remove the decision making and group profits into larger organization.

    Advice to Management

Keep the customers as satisfied as they've been, and increase their numbers! Meet with employees more to share the good and the bad. Rumors abound when no one says what's really going on.
