I worked at Vertical Screen full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Casual dress code and you can eat at your desk.

    Cons

The training is indeed comical as one reviewer states. The coordinators play favorites with who they want to help. Everytime I say anything to them , they keep saying "I cant hear you, what do you mean , what are you talking about, I dont understand what you are talking about ". I sat there 3 weeks and didnt hear them talking like that to anyone else. I dont care how management tries to justify this odd extra behavior....

I have been working at Vertical Screen full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Lovely headquarters, very bright and open with plenty of natural sunlight. Casual dress code and the allowance of listening to music on headphones while working are plusses.

    Cons

Micromanagement, very low pay, not a whole lot of room to climb up to different positions. Most of all, very monotonous and boring work.

    Advice to Management

Increase employee review to not just yearly, but quarterly. Do not let people get stuck with one assignment, make sure you give them new opportunities to grow.

I worked at Vertical Screen full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Health benefits, casual dress code, unlimited OT (that’s how you can make more which is much needed with low pay), pick shift want to work

    Cons

I left this job fast. Do not leave your job even if you are miserable cause it is worse at vertical. This is absolutely a revolving door company. I was stressed out daily and it affected my mood at home. First they expect you to learn a lot of information fast. I’ve never been given this much info so fast. They say well you have work instructions you can go back to. There is a lot of info to retain work instructions...

    Advice to Management

Wake up!!! A lot of changes need to be made here. Paying people way too little for what asking to do. Higher ups in their own offices need to walk around and talk to people. The people on the floor are doing a lot for little pay.

I worked at Vertical Screen full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Casual dress code, flexible shifts, can listen to music at work, food trucks on Friday's. Good starter job; develops skills in problem solving, critical thinking, legal knowledge. Green building, emphasis on eco-friendly policies. Community garden available for senior staff.

    Cons

Isolating environment; socialization is formally banned. Poorly trained, often abusive management who as a whole don't value their workers or treat them with much respect. Comically bad training. Low pay, high stress. Little PTO, poor benefits, difficult to get a 9-5 shift. Excessive micromanagement. No job security or room for upward mobility. No transparency about company policy or standards. A lot of favoritism, nasty...

    Advice to Management

Train your workers properly, maintain consistent and fair rules, treat your workers as human beings, close the gap between upper and middle management communication, pay your workers a fair wage. I was literally told that I was just an expendable part in a machine too many times to count. The overwhelming emphasis on efficient over humanity is awfully disheartening to work under. The total isolation imposed by the socialization...

I worked at Vertical Screen full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The work itself is pretty easy (too easy in fact) Casual dress code - you can pretty much wear whatever you want They actually train people, so no experience necessary Benefits after 3 months of work (but good luck trying to make it that long)

    Cons

Off hours - very hard to get a 9-5 position here. You WILL work either 6a-2p, 2p-10p, or 10p-6a for a significant amount of time before you are able to switch to a different shift on a permanent basis (and the chances of that are pretty slim). Meager pay - Sure $12/hour FT is great if you just walked out of high school with no skills and still live with your parents. But most people there have a Bachelor's if not...

    Advice to Management

Fix how your company is internally run. If you have to say during the interview that "we have so much turnover because we promote from within so much" (which is a half-truth: turnover IS extremely high here, but it's not because of internal promotions) then maybe you should address why people leave so quickly and so often rather than just chewing through people like a meat grinder. Be honest. I would probably still...

      Pros

The pros are the cheap snacks in the vending machines, the health benefits are okay since its 100% employer paid, the relaxed dress code.

      Cons

There are so many cons. The first is the low pay, it isn't a living wage. The company offers unlimited overtime, however there are stipulations to it. Employees shouldn't have to work overtime just to be able to pay all bills. The supervisors are horrible. The supervisors act like it is high school. They have their favorite employees which is obvious because they treat them as such. The only way you can get a promotion...

      Advice to Management

Stop treating your job like it is high school. Get some training on how to be an effective leader. I guarantee you if you were to work somewhere else, you wouldn't be able to handle the responsibilities that come with being an actual manger.

      I worked at Vertical Screen

      Pros

Basically, if you need a job to keep afloat while looking for another job, this is a pretty decent place to work. But don't expect a career, promotion, or a raise out of this place. Pros for me include the option for overtime pay (you chose the days and hours you'd like to work OT), the work is easy (but can be mind-numbing at times), the inside of the building looks pretty cool, nice outside eating area, employee...

      Cons

The work is mind numbing at best, they make you feel guilty if you don't do enough overtime, a lot of the staff just don't care so this is reflected in their quality of work, so many emails, the women's bathroom smells atrocious, extremely high turnover so there's always someone to train but you won't get compensated for it, air conditioning runs all year so it's freezing in the winter (most people need blankets), most...

      Advice to Management

Give employees better raises and perks, keep search instructions more streamlined so you don't hear two different things from two different managers. Obviously something needs to change with such a high turnover rate. I left this place 2 years ago and reading these reviews tells me nothing has or will change anytime soon so....

I have been working at Vertical Screen full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Great benefits, paid lunch, casual dress code, generous overtime, overtime incentives (in the busy season, they will sometime pay you double time for all overtime PLUS more money/gift cards/TVs/Flyers tickets/Movie tickets in additional raffles). They bring in catered food for holidays, ice cream trucks, pizzas on snow days, etc. The garden! Anyone can get a garden bed and the company supply everything. From seeds, plants,...

      Cons

The pay. I think we all agree that the pay could and should be more. Especially being in the location where it is - the pay versus cost of living is outrages. And I do miss the one hour lunches. They also seem to keep the people who are doing a horrible job. Makes it harder and create more work for the rest of us! The job is easy but can be monotone. I read one of the reviews about the management being all kinds of not...

      Advice to Management

Let go of the people who aren't putting the same amount of work as the rest of us and yet you pay them just the same. Say hello. Be more personable. We are people too. When you do come down from the second floor and walk around, say hello. Introduce yourselves and ask how we are. Its a simple gesture, but it lets us know you're human. Also, it would be nice for us to tour the second floor, even old people from Ann's Choice...

      Pros

      - Friendly people! The people here are very friendly, and the supervisors/managers in the PR department are always approachable and helpful. You’re never made to feel that you can’t get help if you have a question and you are always treated with respect. I’ve never had a bad experience with anybody here. As for happiness, people also seem happy for the most part. I’m certainly happy, and I’ve been at jobs before...

      Cons

The only con I can think of is one other reviewers have brought up – that the company never closes for inclement weather. A lot of people who live close by aren’t affected by this, but with the bad winters we’ve had the last few years, it can be stressful for those of us who have long commutes or rely on public transportation. HOWEVER. Our supervisors do what they can to make the best of the situation for us. You...
