I worked at Verve full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * Great engineering org, absolute top-notch. The org is full of bright engineers that are also very easy to work with. Many of the best engineers I have worked with have been at Verve. * Great problems to solve. Got to work with cutting-edge technologies to solve these problems, which helped me learn a lot and was very rewarding. * Great work-life balance. Most managers are concerned with what work you are getting...

    Cons

    * Entire adtech industry has been suffering lately. Has affected Verve a little bit, but I think they have generally handled it well.

I worked at Verve full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are no good reasons to work here.

    Cons

I accepted a job to work for a senior leader and was completely bait and switched. There was an initial round of layoffs at the beginning of the year and another one recently. They are not paying their publishers and are trying to stitch together a programmatic business. For a company that had been around since 2005 there is no backend UI or processes in place. This is a sinking ship with a lot of in fighting between...

I worked at Verve full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice office space Quality coworkers (outside of management) Smart engineers OK pay and benefits Free lunch once a week (for now)

    Cons

Company has laid off 40% of workforce over the past year disguised as adjustments. but it's actually running out of money. Publishers complain that they haven't been paid in months. And managers are fleeing in record numbers, leaving the least competent behind. The CEO is at the top of that list -- keeps lying to employees about how bright the future is while Verve burns. They also lie to new recruits who discover...

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves and get some competent managers who have business sense. Maybe the board should get a clue about what's really going on.

    Pros

The company's optimism in a rough advertising market

    Cons

The company's naive optimism in a rough advertising market

    Advice to Management

Verve's CEO and other C-level are all over social media touting the company's latest partnerships du jour, all whilst actually believing that the company's latest strategic moves will be any more financially lucrative [or less cash-hemorrhaging] than its past failed ones (e.g. beacons, global expansion, etc.). Seriously, Mr. CEO, you get brownie points for excitement and optimism, and your #2019baby hashtags on PR/media...

    Pros

Whether or not you're lucky enough to quit before they lay you off.

    Cons

    - 3 mass layoffs in two years - They drove away all of their most talented and senior people by letting poor management treat them like garbage - It's a bro culture from top to bottom and their #MeToo moment is coming - They have no idea what they're doing in the engineering department - Salaries are far below market value across the board - Benefits are a joke, no care for employee health or wellbeing - No culture,...

I worked at Verve full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The boss I had was the best I ever had. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

As many others have said, don't even accept an offer here unless you're ready to be let go. CFO/COO John Fitzgerald is throughly incompetent and his management of both the finances and the operations of the company are primarily responsible for the sad state of this company. Typically that would get you removed but again, as others have mentioned, these guys are loyal to a fault but not to you.

    Advice to Management

    1) Sit back quietly and wait for your turn to get #MeToo-ed. It wouldn't surprise me based on their behavior, attitude. 2) Stop gaslighting employees by giving them unannounced bonus options only to lay them off en masse weeks later. 3) Don't add insult to injury by making threats to the employees you lay off about what might happen if they use the Washington Nationals ticket you already gave them to attend the...

I worked at Verve full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fun times... when we were doing well.

    Cons

Terrible leadership (CEO,CMO,CFO. Etc). They fired all the smart, forward-thinking sales team members including 2x CROs, 3x VPs and various other roles. Marketing is a joke. Then Verve merged with another failing company, (two non profitable companies do not make one profitable one). No foresight or vision for the future. A completely commoditized product at this point.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company now before your losses take an even bigger hit.
