I have been working at Vestcom International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I actually love the people that I work with on a day to day basis that are not in management. We all have a really good working relationship.

    Cons

Upper management not very knowledgeable about what happens on a day to day basis. They often over promise and under deliver to the customers due to this. Morale of employees should be a lot better.

    Advice to Management

Put people in place who actually under the business from top to bottom and makes sound decisions instead of guessing.

"Long hours, 24/7 call, low pay, punitive and basically abusive. Coworkers are wonderful and deserve so much better."

    Pros

Fantastic and smart peers. Good office environment and location. Excellent health benefits. Somewhat flexible work hours. Can work from home one day a week in some cases. Decent PTO.

    Cons

Upper management horrible. Answer to everything is "just get it done no matter what." Pay too low for such high stress & responsibility. Cut staff, but keep work load and deadlines.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate micromanagement. Allow for flex time. Pay for employee's required home stations. Improve pay overall. Create career ladder. Offer REAL training and education, and not just Vestcom University. Basically, decide if you want to be a factory or a professional IT org.

I have been working at Vestcom International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is decent for what you are required to do. The people who work there are friendly and willing to help.

    Cons

There are no defined work weeks. The Management team needs to listen to their employees more and understand that the bottom line isn't always the answer.

    Advice to Management

Every site is different. Listen to your employees, they might actually have the answer you need. Training should be done before you go live with new equipment!

I worked at Vestcom International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For a company of its size that specializes in a very specific product mix, Vestcom pays a competitive salary to the development staff. The pay is enough to lure developers from larger firms and agencies in the area.

    Cons

Vestcom hires many resources as contractor-to-perm using staffing agencies. The consulting periods vary based on management needs -- leaving the contractors in a state of flux for an undetermined amount of time. Not all contactors are hired. Contractors generally keep their options open and continue to seek permanent employment as a safety net. Far too much effort in the development of products and services. Most projects are customized from the bottom up with little reuse of previous code.

    Advice to Management

Drop the contract-to-perm hiring process altogether. Hire full-time staff members from the beginning. Far too many custom solutions to remain profitable long term. Standardize the product mix, build, design, and delivery to lower the level of effort.
