I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for professional development, great benefits, great culture

    Cons

Moving up and promotions are more of contests of how many recommendations you can get or how important the person recommending you is - not based on talent. Also being lower on the ladder means you get stepped on very often, even when things are out of your control.

    Advice to Management

At the department level, put more effort into getting to know your subordinates.

    Pros

Wonderful opportunities. A great way to break into the industry and learn up to date trends.

    Cons

    The pay isn't that great.

    Advice to Management

Pay people what they are worth.

    Pros

Really great people - young creatives who care a ton about their work. A lot of room to move around, and a nice benefits package (for staff).

    Cons

In recent years due to cable-cutter woes, there has been constant restructuring. Similarly, the company now entirely lacks what it was founded on - the desire and ability to take risks and break entirely new ground through innovation.

    Advice to Management

Stop pretending like cable TV is still a thing.

I worked at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It paid well and challenged me to remember how I produced low budget projects back in film school. The company has a strong pedigree of good content, from Nickelodeon to MTV.

    Cons

Uncertainty with the position and the company in general lead to a low morale culture, and productivity suffered as a result.

    Pros

Young but talented staff. Close knit. Awesome production management team (always willing to help even at the eleventh hour).

    Cons

Favoritism is key. If you came in without having a strong or previous relationship with upper management it is hard to advance. Because there was a shift in content, senior staff feared that they would lose their positions and created a toxic space with lack of communication. PAs and APs were asked to do more than they were compensated for. Not much diversity in their digital department.

    Advice to Management

    Don't hire friends.

    Pros

Great PTO days and amazing culture. Although it's not what it use to be, the company is a great place to start your career in Media.

    Cons

Upper management has driven the company into a bad state. Massive layoffs have eroded talent and made a lot of people jump ship. Not a great place for promotions and salary is not ideal.

    Advice to Management

You need the best creative team to bring fresh and cool shows for their target demo.
