    Pros

I get the opportunity to use writing and analytical skills together. It's a laid-back atmosphere that values teamwork and I've never been berated, yelled at, or mistreated. Management encourages career growth and initiative, although taking initiative can sometimes be intimidating. For staff, the benefits are good and feel well-thought out. When the company holiday extravaganza was cancelled, staff got two extra vacation days to use during the holidays, which was thoughtful.

    Cons

It's a big corporation that can sometimes feel faceless. There's a large difference in treatment between long-term freelance and staff positions, in terms of benefits and a general feeling of fairness (if someone's been there eight years, they aren't really freelance). Because turnover in the industry is so high, it can feel as though the only way to advance is to switch networks, which is too bad-- I like it at MTVN.

    Advice to Management

Continue and increase transparency with how the company operates.

    Pros

Young popular company, impressive on resume, fun culture, good experience. You can meet some really awesome people here. And the view from your desk is spectacular.

    Cons

Low pay, poor management, no advancement. It takes forever to reach management. There is no advancement plan so it's basically about who you know and kissing ass to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Manager workshops and learn to treat analysts as adults.

    Pros

You can disappear in a network of offices, work lazy hours and have little responsibility.

    Cons

Fake benefits, no job security, salaries that are FAR BELOW industry standards, Times Square foot traffic, little vertical career movement.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees and we'll invest in you. Hey Philippe - take 10mill off your 90mill annual salary and treat your employees like human beings. Benefits are not a state of mind.

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The standard perks of working with a global company with a good brand name for a resume are there for the taking. Good benefits, vacation time, and work life balance are all solid and can be slightly better than other media firms.

    Cons

Politics run the organization. I have been promoted within the company but the key is having VPs vouch for your good work (even if they have never worked with you before). This is standard across all departments. Additionally the firm shows very little willingness to work towards their employees needs. Working from home is rarely an option and there is very little say in affairs until you reach a high level.

    Advice to Management

Cut back on the socialization, and focus more on employee development. For a company trying to reach a younger age group, it seems ironic that all of the individuals developing strategy are too nervous to lean on the younger staff.

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent money and good work experience. Work there long enough then go get a good job somewhere else. Summer Fridays are nice.

    Cons

It is all about CYA and passing the buck. So many lame policies and rules. Can't get anything done due to middle management.

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice coworkers if they are all on the same rung on the corporate ladder.
    Good benefits package.
    Lots of time off.

    Cons

    Nepotism all over.
    No upward mobility.
    Management doesn't listen and/or care.
Salary is way below going rate for most positions.
Constant fear of being laid off.
Good workers aren't rewarded, instead they are given more responsibilities with no increase in salary. Same goes for people that get laid off. Instead of being replaced, they distribute the work amongst those who are left.
No career path assistance. Constantly told there are no positions available.
Company makes multi-million dollar cuts and yet the CEO gets a 19% salary increase.

    Advice to Management

Be open to employee input and willing to give direction.

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - The name of the company

    Cons

    Too many to count.
    - Over worked, under paid
    - If you have a bad AE and SSE, your life sucks
    - God forbid someone on your team leaves, that work is all left up to you
    - No real room for advancement
    - High turnover
    - if you wan to have a work/life balance look somewhere else

    Advice to Management

Listen to your CSRs. Please stop over working them and for heavens sake pay them more.

    Pros

Great place to start a career or get back into the workforce. The workplace is not very demanding at all and provides a comfortable 9-5 for those just looking to get by.

    Cons

The salaries are pretty low, however, it does match the demand. If you are middle management, you must share an office. You must hope that you are placed with a professional that actually works.

Playing music and watching, TV, or movies is accepted - even when they are played at the max. If you need to speak over the phone, you must learn to yell at your co-workers - employees use explicit s to get there point across.

    Advice to Management

    Eliminate the communal cubicles

    Pros

Definitely the environment is friendly and helpful. Definitely have a work life balance which is great. Get to be involved in a lot of cool stuff and it is pretty innovating in regards to marketing as well as systems, etc.

    Cons

It is really known that MTV does not pay their people that well. I would have to agree with that as when I left the company, I got a 25% increase in pay. Also very disorganized and a lot of the times, we are just running around trying to solve the issue and not actively trying to figure out how to prevent an issue.

    Advice to Management

Pay better, communicate with employees better. Definitely be a little bit more organized. The brand is there but you guys can be making soo much more money if you had some capable people in the organization
