I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A lot of good people work here. You'll gain a lot of experience; even if you're under qualified. ..trial by fire (which can also be a con)

    Cons

Senior management is out of touch with everyone below them.
Not very easy to advance up the ranks

    Advice to Management

You like to foster good talent, but you need to learn to retain these assets

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people on my team, all talented in their individual roles and respective duties.

    Cons

A total lack of organization at the top level led to late night shoots dictated by talent's arrival and schedule.

    Advice to Management

More collaboration and regular meetings would make life easier on the production team's end.

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Young workforce, a good place to start your career, good benefits, flexible in terms of responsibility.

    Cons

Promotes "jack of all trades, master of none" work philosophy. Squelches new ideas. Not interested in creative solutions or ideas. Happy to churn out lowest quality work for the biggest buck.

    Advice to Management

Take a few risks, it's what put MTV on the map in the first place.

Career trajectory may not always be clear

    Increase transparency and accountability

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun work environment, great benefits, tuition reimbursement, access to industry events.

    Cons

Extremely top-heavy organization where promotion from within is difficult. I've watched managers become VPs in 2 years, while others rot away with no promotions or proper raises. A lot of positions at the VP or higher level seem to be "invented" constantly.

    Advice to Management

Reassure junior employees that there is a commitment to promoting from within.

    Pros

Able to push the envelope and produce edgy content. They ordered a total of 130 episodes of my first show and I continued to produce multiple shows with them. Typically they order 30 episodes at a time for daily shows and 6 - 8 episodes for weekly.

    Cons

no cons - MTV launched my career

    Advice to Management

    N/A

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

This is a great company to start your first job. Great introduction to any area of Entertainment you want. Very friendly and fun work environment.

    Cons

It is hard to move up in a department. You have to fight for a position or more responsibility to get noticed, you can't be shy or reserved.

    Advice to Management

Provide more incentive to employees to stay with the company. Provide incentive and opportunities for employees to move up in the company.

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Terrific pay and an enormous audience base. The network remains a major cultural force and the brand commands attention, no matter what is airing.

    Cons

Increasing reliance on freelancers as staff members; no benefits and little job security.

    Advice to Management

Re-position the network with a focus on music. The era of music videos on television is certainly over, however coverage of the music industry and the development of new talent matters to the core demographic and would distinguish the network from the scores of other reality-heavy networks.

    Pros

Great work environment! Corporate?-- YES! Diverse? -- YES! Most High End Executives are very down to earth. Networking is awesome

    Cons

If you don't participate in what is going on in the company. (reaping the benefits: workshops, programs, etc...) you can definitely get stuck where you are. NETWORK IS IMPORTANT!

I have been working at Viacom Media Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees are very kind, open, and fun. Staff believe in your growth and potential. Tuition reimbursement, 401k matching, profit sharing, as well as in-house classes. The Lodge is a subsidized dining facility in the building.

    Cons

Pay could be better. However, this is offset by the fun time that you will have while on the job, and the resume building name.

    Advice to Management

If only there were an easy way to get employee ideas, like for shows, movies and series, to the proper development personnel...
