I worked at Vicarious Visions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

-Great Benefits ( 2 months paid paternity leave!)
    -Great Coworkers
-Stability in an industry that rarely sees it
    -Creative staff who take risks
-Affordable Housing. This place is a great affordable place to raise a family.

    Cons

-Corporate risk level much lower than studios
-Can sometimes be hard to get solid career growth beyond a mid level position

    Advice to Management

Take the time to ensure that people are fully engaged and working to their maximum potential. Also realize when people are overworking themselves and need a break. Often during crunch is the time in which people need to take a day off and recoup the most.

I have been working at Vicarious Visions full-time

    Pros

Lots of flexibility in terms of what you'll be able to work on. Both in terms of projects and platforms.

    Cons

Decision making is done exclusively. Project organization is very hierarchical.

"Great place to get started, but whether or not you want to stay... questionable."

    Pros

Being part of Activision, there is a great deal of stability. Getting to work on Guitar Hero and Marvel titles is pretty great. You definitely get to make your mark in the game industry. However, with the nature of Guitar Hero, and the dreaded holiday release schedule, there is only so much time to innovate and polish. Great people, great company, they take care of their employees, and have been through pretty rough times with regards to crunching, and are doing everything they can to mitigate future crunch, it's always not avoidable though.

    Cons

Albany. While the projects are relatively high profile, there could be better things to work on. The company is still has a ways to go before being top notch. It also seems some people who are in leadership positions could benefit from having a critical review of their performance from their subordinates. Not to say that they're particularly bad, but perhaps don't know that they could improve in some areas.

    Advice to Management

Be more communicative and open. More regular feedback on how employees are doing would be helpful.

I have been working at Vicarious Visions full-time

    Pros

This place has great people, and projects that are interesting to work on. It is a great place to start your career in the gaming industry. If work / life balance is important, this place is great about that.

    Cons

Career track can be unclear at times. I was never sure what can be done to move up except for staying here longer. Honestly, it's a great company. Anything negative I have to say is going to be nitpicky.

    Advice to Management

Get more involved in project level decisions. Also, pay more attention to employees that are putting in more then they have to. In my time here, I've seen management let go of great people and reward people who are only just alright.
