I have been working at Vicor Corp. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Relatively high autonomy in designing a process. The work is interesting with the ability to work with all sorts of robotics and machines.

    Cons

There is a moderately high level of responsibility and stress in meeting timelines and yields. Promotions are slim in quality and quantity.

    Advice to Management

Taking care of employees that are working diligently to deliver is critical for retention of employees.

I have been working at Vicor Corp. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The products and technology is great. If we had a great marketing team and great sales team, we can easily thrive in the industry.

    Cons

The management team is terrible. All the top dogs has been there since the beginning of time. They lack management skills and run the operations like a dictator. There’s no consistency and our process can be streamlined a lot better. If you want to thrive here, then you’d better get on the good sides of the upper management, if not, they will make your life miserable. Documentation is terrible, we don’t follow any laws or regulations.

    Advice to Management

Be opened to ideas and innovations. Hire more millennials. Stop doing things the “old school” ways. Appreciate your employees and treat them like they matter.

I worked at Vicor Corp. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very talented engineers
Run by an engineer so engineers are treated very well
    Great learning experience

    Cons

Firmware department very poorly managed; very high turnover rate

    Advice to Management

Change the firmware department management and you won't have 6 engineers leave over a 2 year period (one left without even having another job lined up)! All the other departments are very well run and the company is filled with extremely talented engineers.

I have been working at Vicor Corp. full-time

    Pros

Leading edge power technology; respected by and engaged with the "best of the best" technology companies in the world; culture of being driven to provide ultimate power performance; a world class manufacturing team still building close to 100% of products in Andover, MA; a wide variety of markets including military, medical, industrial, and computing; great team of employees. In my role, I have the freedom and autonomy to be able to hunt for new markets and opportunities, and ultimately to make a difference.

    Cons

Technology leadership tends to focus more on a few large "game changing" customers and opportunities vs addressing complete markets. Typical technology company high stress level.

    Advice to Management

Work towards more balance between individual engagements and addressing core markets to increase growth.

I worked at Vicor Corp. full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong R&D environment. Engineering strong with strong support infrastructure. Continued drive for excellence even though internal politics are extremely negative.

    Cons

Leadership (not the CEO) lacking in leading the teams and spending time listening and working with the troops on the ground. No clear direction from leadership.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example and first seek to understand before being understood.

I worked at Vicor Corp. full-time

    Pros

The working environment is above average. People are friendly and willing to help.

    Cons

Forget everything you've learned because Vicor does everything their own way. No standards, just Vicor tribal knowledge. Upper management will throw you under the bus, belittle you and treat you like a pawn in an effort to achieve their personal goals resulting in bonuses to further line their already padded pockets.

    Advice to Management

Please retire. For years, I've seen you making wrong decision after wrong decision making critical decisions that affects many others that only benefit you personally and allow YOU to climb up the ladder. It's disgusting.
