I worked at Videomining Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good core technology with numerous patents. Products developed in an academic environment mostly on money from research grants. University environment.

    Cons

Extremely fragmented marketplace which is very difficult to market to; this combined with a sales and business strategy that seems to be ever changing makes for a very difficult time.

    Advice to Management

Bring in a professional CEO who knows how to manage and lead a company....not the academic who sits in his closet type office and waits for the phone to ring hoping someone who wants to do business is at the other end if the line. Hire a strategy person with real world accomplishments and success instead of the current amateur who has zero track record of success.

I have been working at Videomining Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free crappy coffee and a few decent co-workers.

    Cons

Employee's come and go like a revolving door. There is a serious issue with communication between the different teams and management. In the past 6 months, the CEO, CFO and HR are no longer with the company, with no real explanation as to why they are gone. Those of us that are still here are being worked to death with no incentives.

    Advice to Management

Start treating your employees better before we all leave.

I have been working at Videomining Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Nice peers: as being a small company, everyone is friendly enough to help others.
    - Founder and CEO of the company is very friendly and not authoritative at all.
    - High-level management team is very talented and knows the market very well.
    - The company's target market is very clear and has high potential.
    - The company's growth potential is very high.
    - No dress code.
    - As long as working 8 hours a day, no requirements of showing up at 9am or so.
    - Monthly lunch & learn for making sure everyone is on the same page.

    P.S.
    - I read some of the reviews former employee made. There were complaints on career opportunity and communication. However, as old people are leaving and new are coming, the culture has been extensively changed, and now I don't see such issues.

    Cons

    - As a small yet rapidly-growing company, there's sometimes a quite amount of work yet people acknowledge that.
    - Lower salary than the Bay area or NYC, but competitive compared to other companies in this area. Living cost is extremely reasonable than big cities.
    - No luxury perks like some of the start-ups in the Bay area. Yet free coffee and tea.

    Advice to Management

Please set up a transparent stock option plan to employees

I have been working at Videomining Corporation full-time

    Pros

Not so much emphasis on working hours

    Cons

    1. A completely disorganized company
    2. No respect for peers
    3. Lots of work with very little resources and at times no resources.Salaries are very incompetent and are extremely low compared to the amount of work.
    4. Bonuses, you can forget it, its based only on politics.
    5. Company doesn't care about your career plans i.e. no career advancement
    6. Management is extremely political instead of trying to address the issues they make it personal to screw you.
    7. Too many fundamental issues that need to be resolved.
    8. No responsibility/ownership values on some teams.
    9. No respect for your personal life.
    9. Lastly, and all the profits the company generate based on your hard work goes into the managements pocket.

    Advice to Management

If you want to s survive learn to respect your employees. Try to address the actual issues instead of pointing fingers or making it political.

    Recommends

    Pros

Pay rate is higher than most places in the area, co-workers are nice, atmosphere is relaxed, If you didn't know the bosses you would not know they were the bosses of the place, can wear anything respectable, always have coffee, tea, or hot chocolate available.

    Cons

checks are given out at the end of the month so management is needed here, no direct deposit, work is not always consistent, no health/dental/vision coverage, no paid vac/personal days,

    Advice to Management

Direct deposit will be a nice addition and maybe some incentives for being a fast and most importantly, accurate annotator. If there is going to be more than two weeks off, the employees should be offered some type of salary because little notice is given that no work will be available after the project and when work becomes available, it is announced a couple days before the project starts.

  11. "Disorganized, Always Late, Stressful"

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

There is no dress code at all and most people don't arrive for work until 10:00, so early mornings aren't a problem.

    Cons

Very little positive affirmation of work completed. The entire company is habitually late on all its projects which translates into stress for employees and undeserved blame for lateness caused by other parts of the company and irrational deadlines. They want you to regularly work odd and extra hours without pay to make up for the mistakes of the company at large.

    Advice to Management

Be affirmiing of the work on your employees, their successes, and acknowledge that there is such a thing as work/life balance. Don't blame individuals for time-related problems that are out of their hands.
