I worked at Virgin America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Virgin has major brand recognition and quite a following among consumers - great for the resume. They truly look out for the "guest" and make decisions in their best interest. For the most part, this includes their internal teammates.

Due to the buyout by Alaska, I think their internal culture amongst teammates is even stronger.

    Flight benefits are awesome!

    Cons

There is a bit of a disparity between the internal and external brand. However, not much of that matters too much now since they were purchased by Alaska :(

Was not much internal career growth and some senior level positions were filled with people that shouldn't be in them.

Limited vacation time didn't allow for full use of flight benefits.

    Advice to Management

Keep fighting for the guest and teammates!

Amazing leadership, people, and work/life balance. Here people work hard but are trusted and respected. Its incredible to work for such a loved and creative brand, with people who are passionate and kind.

    Cons

Fairly flat organization so it might be hard to get promoted

    Pros

    Cons

only times the job was hard was when the weather was terrible- no one likes it when their flight is delayed/cancelled

I have been working at Virgin America part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people who work for the company are some of the best people I have ever met. I instantly made life long friends from the very start. The benefits will open your eyes to worlds you never even dreamed of.

    Cons

The work rules change so often. The training process is very unstable and does not fully prepare you for the weeks, months, years ahead. Effective Communication is probably the weakest point of the company. Corporate has been very money hungry and even let Richard Branson out of his own brand.

    Advice to Management

    Stay Consistent.

I worked at Virgin America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun culture, guests love the airline which makes your days easier, flight benefits, great uniforms, recently acquired by Alaska Airlines, the company is really trying to make things better by negotiating a new contract for he inflight team before the merge even happens

    Cons

The lack of cities Virgin flies to (making it very difficult to commute), the DRAMA and gossip are unavoidable (no matter which crew I worked with, they were speaking negatively about the company or others who worked there), low pay especially when you consider that the only bases they have are in the 3 most expensive US cities, you often have to remind crew scheduling of the work rules when you're on reserve because they seem to forget and not give you enough rest/work you hours that are too long, on-demand ordering on the planes ALWAYS had issues and it was a pain to never get a break on a long day of flying because of it

    Advice to Management

Overall, Virgin was a fun company to work for, but I think management needs to improve work rules and compensation. Now that Virgin has been acquired by Alaska I believe things will get better.

I worked at Virgin America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of responsibility, trusted with high security stuff, very interesting people, fun culture at times, cool uniforms, standby flight perks, get inside perspective on airline industry, meet a ton of people, free food around Virgin anniversary celebrations, company-sponsored "office" parties, lots to learn, better than most hourly gigs, doesn't require schooling

    Cons

Customer service job, airports are the place where emotions are high and everything is a crisis for the customer, training takes you away from your life for 3 weeks straight - to another state, not much opportunity for career growth, lots of favoritism in how you're managed, fear-based management, not a great deal of trust with your bosses, sometimes they're younger and more immature than your peers, standby is not exactly a fun way to live when hoping to travel as almost everything is a maybe, airport work hours can be crap - 4 am start and 4 hour shifts for example, full-time or part-time isn't guaranteed and changing between the two is a whole process, wearing panty hose and required makeup everyday means you spend a lot of money month to month on them, you have to worry about how you look constantly, the pay is pretty crappy, the management doesn't trust the headquarters "higher ups" to be transparent either, it's an edgy environment sometimes because of this.
