It is what you make of it. VDOT has many positions. In addition, the agency provides new challenges and growth. You cannot sit still and wait for something good to happen. If you want to succeed, ask for what you want and ask questions. Anyone can succeed. Never be afraid to ask questions.
Cons
Like any business or agency, there are people who do not know how to talk to people with respect, but you have to speak up. Some managers talk down to some of their staff and treat their staff like they are their children. It would NOT be a con if you say something and deal with it immediately. The longer you hold it in and do not say anything, the worse it gets. I noticed that some people do not know who to turn to whenever they are having problems. Please use the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) when you are having problems. Never think that you are alone whenever you are having issues with anyone within VDOT. Talk to someone that you can trust.
