I have been working at Virginia International Terminals (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Job Security
Once your in you're all set. You don't really have to worry about being let go. The transportation world doesn't necessarily die down and the Port of Virginia is one of the largest ports to work at.
    2. Decent Pay
The pay isn't bad, mid-level sitting around 50,000 and up for management positions.

    Cons

    1. Lack of Control
The ability to implement changes for efficiency gets ignored or pushed off. Small changes can take years to implement.
    2. Communication
Departmental meetings don't happen. It's more "I hear from ..." This leaves gaps and causes confusion.
    3. Last Minute Decisions
Overall I'd say senior management operates on the fly instead of making calculated plans for the unexpected. It causes unwanted unneeded stress and combined with poor communication causes chaos.
    4. Abilities Ignored
Friends and family will get an edge on advancing. It doesn't matter the quality of your work, innovative ideas, or ability to be flexible.

    Advice to Management

Provide greater feedback and allow your people to grow.

    Pros

Good benefits, but they have dwindled.

    Cons

New management. APM take over was bad for VIT.

    Pros

VIT was a great place to work. There were great employee relationships, great pay, great benefits. Overall, a great place to start or continue your career.

    Cons

As with every company, there were a few employees who were rude and careless which contributed to some accidents and altercations.

    Advice to Management

Management is great. Where I worked there was a great rapore among the workers. They took their work very seriously but didn't take themselves seriously all the time which made it more enjoyable.

I have been working at Virginia International Terminals as an intern

    Pros

Great and enthusiastic people! Made my internship fun, memorable, and exciting. The Internship was well organized and thorough.

    Cons

Sometimes not enough intern level work which leads to a lot of downtime.
