    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Virginia State Corporation Commission full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Been here a year and so far so good. Good benefits and good pay. Work/Home balance is good. Very flexible.

    Cons

ALOT of work and not a whole lot of recognition.

    Advice to Management

Recognize employees for their work and be faster on promotions.

I have been working at Virginia State Corporation Commission (More than 3 years)

    Pros

While we work for the State, the Commission has its own money separate from other agencies; this allows for more salary freedom. The individuals that work here are both professional and conservative.

    Cons

The Commission does not have much opportunity for growth within the departments. You are rarely seen as being able to do more than what the job entails.

    Advice to Management

Review your associates resume to familiarize yourself with their strengths and other positions held. Associates frequently accept a role to get their foot in the door, but then it is hard to be seen as having done more complicated tasks than the current job requires. Promoting within may require you to look elsewhere to fill the old position, but it does show that you take a genuine interest in your associates and it will boost the overall morale of the department.

I have been working at Virginia State Corporation Commission as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The state gets lots of holidays off. The state also have a decent benefits package for health care and retirement.

    Cons

Because they feel their benefits are good, they don't pay as well as some other private agencies would pay for the same service. Also, not much room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Build career tracks for people who want to advance further in their respective fields so it won't seem so much like a dead end job.

    Pros

Flexible time scheduling depending on supervisor
    Good Benefits

    Cons

    Salary well below private industry
    Not many opportunities for advancement

    Advice to Management

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

State benefits are ok. Located in Downtown Richmond, if you would like to be there. They have a cafeteria in the building.

    Cons

Management is condescending and thrills in acting as dictators.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the mentality that people should have no work/life balance. Likewise, stop promoting people to supervisory roles where they abuse their staff. Totally unacceptable. So many people are out due to cancer issues. I am sure it is from the stress at work.

I worked at Virginia State Corporation Commission as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Learned how to use financial software, first time working in a team-oriented office environment, first time working full-time, great people, did something that helped people

    Cons

had to do a lot of intern stuff (scanning) and often had no assignments, understand that the salaries for employees is not great, computer was outdated and slow

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Virginia State Corporation Commission full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Pay was wonderful!
    Experience was worth it.
Wonderful Management (who I still speak with, and she is very helpful and encouraging)

    Cons

They did not conduct interviews so I think some of the people they chose as interns were not professional enough for the job.
Sometimes all of the management team were not on the same page, which can be frustrating.
Sometimes there also could be alot of downtime which could get boring.

    Advice to Management

You guys rock, keep it up!
