I have been working at Virginia Tech part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've been a graduate teaching assistant for the Communication department for a year and a half. The support the department offers is outstanding and you never feel like you can't talk to at least one person. The training they provide you to teach public speaking is conducted the week prior to school starting and it is very thorough. I felt well prepared to teach come the first day of classes.

    Cons

I would imagine being a public speaking GTA for the department would be difficult if you were terrified of public speaking, had poor time management, and were an unorganized person.

I have been working at Virginia Tech part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Dakota! He was amazing! He's one of the biggest reasons I enjoyed my job so much. Everyone else in management was amazing and outgoing as well. The best part of the job is getting to meat 30 hokies, 4 days a week for a month!

    Cons

We had 18-hour work days but it was all worth it because of all the amazing people you get to meet.

    Advice to Management

    Stay awesome!

I have been working at Virginia Tech full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Small college town, generally supportive environment to grow

    Cons

Some rather bureaucratic middle management tiers and service staffs, who worry more about not making mistakes than getting things done, and become idle and obstructive.

    Advice to Management

Raise the bar of the staff and service quality. Staffs do not have tenure, therefore should not be guaranteed job security if they are not productive.
