    You'll live in a beautiful town and work with bright people from all around the world.

    Cons

    Administratively they can be a little behind the times.

    Advice to Management

    A Sweet 16 appearance would do a great deal for all our careers.

    Current cluster hire in destination areas.

    Cons

    No support (financial or mentorship) if you are unable to obtain funding, requirements for tenure keep changing

    Advice to Management

    If you want to inspire loyalty to retain faculty, provide resources and mentorship to enable success.

    Lots of work politics that can get in the way of people. More about who can complain the most to get someone promoted rather than who is the most qualified.

    Advice to Management

    Drop the work politics and provide merit based promotions rather than making it a popularity contest.

    Pros

    The culture and spirit of community and inclusion is at the heart of all interactions within the university and Town of Blacksburg.

    Cons

    While the university as a whole is incredible, one should be careful because not all departments have a trusting culture.

    Advice to Management

    With the changes unfolding with President Sands and Provost Rakakkis, the university will flourish. However, there are "old guard" still set in the restrictive ways of the past. They should be encouraged to step aside and allow progress to happen.
