I worked at Virtual Premise full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are seeking an entry-level position, if you desire to gain new skills or improve upon your existing skills, this is where you can do it.

    Cons

I'm sure this is a sentiment echoed throughout companies willing to build your skill sets, the salary could be better.

    Advice to Management

    Revisit your salary structures

I worked at Virtual Premise full-time

    Pros

Clients love the product and company, high retention rate. Good work life balance. Smart people. Company does fun events. Can work from home.

    Cons

Requires in depth real estate knowledge. Diverse product that takes months to learn how to configure, customize and program. New parent company, CoStar.

    Advice to Management

Need more full time coaches, less player/managers.

I have been working at Virtual Premise full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company allows for great work life / balance. You are not expected to work late into the evening
Great people to work with (nice and helpful)

    Cons

No bonus structure unless you are in management
Codebase is pretty old in some areas and you will be expected to maintain it or upgrade it (classic ASP in some areas).
Room for growth is pretty limited
Company is pretty stingy (i.e. does not pay for training opportunities)

    Advice to Management

Invest in the happiness and well-being of your employees. Allow them the opportunity to grow.

"Contract Lease Analyst/Abstractor: not for everyone"

I worked at Virtual Premise as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a job that pays, the office is nice, in general the people are nice and the hours are easy.

    Cons

This is not a real estate job, its a production job with daily goals. Yes, you will read lots of leases, but that's it. Virtually no full-time employees here have any real estate experience.

The individual that runs the team has zero real estate experience nor does that person know how to abstract a lease. So don't anticipate any professional grooming if you're full time. Also, for any contractors out there, be prepared. You have a manager that likely knows infinitely less about real estate than you do, and in my opinion, that intimidates them.

I've heard numerous people describe what the abstractors do as "data entry." That gives you an idea as to how they view you.

Abstractors are referred to as "assets" and "resources." Virtually all the abstractors (seriously) are contractors. Turnover and attrition is very high. If you start with 4 other contractors, there may be 1 or 2 of you left after a month. Tread lightly as the individual that runs the team will terminate you for any perceived errors.

    Advice to Management

    You need stronger operational management.

    Pros

Great environment for team oriented projects. If you like a little project structure but not methodology for the sake of methodology then this is a great place to build software.

    Cons

Informal management structure sometimes makes it hard to know where the buck stops. There is no clear path or program for career advancement, although there is advancement to be had. Company is now a subsidiary of Costar Group (CSGP) it is not clear how that will affect the work environment.
