I worked at Vision Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the regional managers are great to work with, but executives and corporate office seem to be out of touch with the rest of the employees.

    Cons

    Set unrealistic goals for you.
Very difficult to move up with this company.

I worked at Vision Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

When they merged and had 3 product lines, they were a great company. They were able to find some really great people and everyone was pretty excited about where the company was going.

    Cons

They have been laying off the really great people that they were able to attract in the earlier years. Way too much middle management.

    Advice to Management

Keep the people that got you to where you are. Offer better career building education. Stop stifling new ideas.

I have been working at Vision Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are many benefits working for Vision. Fair compensation, excellent health and financial benefits, unlimited vacation, work from home options.

You have to work hard to take advantage of the vacation opportunities but it is worth it.

The company is small enough that you don't feel like just an employee but a valued member of the team.

    Cons

Depending upon your position hours can be difficult.

I have been working at Vision Solutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Unilimited vacation is a nice thought even though it doesn't really exist since your manager still needs to approve any time off, which means it's really not unlimited.

    Cons

The executive team is a bunch of big egos with very little positive delivered results. The CEO is invisible, spending most of his time at his vineyard. The marketing team has fallen apart with new leadership in place-- he's lost and tried to manage through intimidation which hasn't worked. The technology leadership hasn't created a decent new product in over 6 years but there's never any consequence. The sales team continues to flounder in large part because the
senior leader is more concered about leaving the office by 4:30 than trying to work more closely with his field team-- it's more important to protect the long-term friendships than fix the business. The product management organization is ruled by Gartner quadrant reports instead of conducting some real stage gate marketing. So much great talent has left this company but the senior team still doesn't get it because they're all waiting for a potential payday from the sale of this floudering Power business.

    Advice to Management

Step aside and let the Board hire a new team of leaders. Some of us have complained to the Board and they are getting the message. Be honest with yourselves and quit tortuing all of us.

I have been working at Vision Solutions full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, ability to work from home at times, unlimited vacation and a great group of people that really care about the company quality of the work produced. Open door policy with management and open to ideas allows for creativity.

    Cons

Unlimited vacation can be hard to take. Communication at times could be better.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Vision Solutions full-time

    Pros

The company has a practical approach to management, allowing personal expression while maintaining good discipline and focus. Management is given and exerts a great deal of flexibility with employees in regards to hours, working location, personal dress, and emergency time off.

What is expected of employees is well documented and results are recognized in both formal and informal ways. Management structure is relatively flat with management at each level consistent in appraisal and expectation.

The employees themselves have a good work ethic and strive to help each other in both technical and soft skills ways. There is a spontaneous flexibility in adapting to the strong personalities that give this company it's unique character. The company is very adept at working remote if the job allows it.

It is a good place to work.

    Cons

The company is a mezzanine company with it's primary product routed in a mid-range server. It is a private company held by venture capitalists. This could be good or bad depending on your perspective. It has long legs in that the sites tend to be small but there are several of them around the world so a more global perspective is obtained from working here, but you do not have the large numbers of people around you as you would in a large centrally located company.

    Advice to Management

I have nothing to advise management. They stay focused, they do the job. With in the employee-management relationship they are easy to work with without being wishy-washy, as mentioned above they use their authority for the good of the company and that often means for the good of the employee as well.

I have not observed in them the personal selfishness so prevalent in American management today.

    Pros

Great people outside of exec. mgmt.and finance dept. Decent benefits. Close to metrolink/amtrak train station if you have to commute to the Irvine hell hole.

    Cons

A dissertation could be written about all the things wrong with this company:
    1. CEO who is weird, aloof and absent. This exec should resign and let someone who is engaged and hands on run the company.
    2. Exec. Mgmt. team is a network of over-paid cronies who haven't done anything positive for the company in years, besides lining their pockets with $$ and inflated each other's egos with self-righteous importance. Exec team is aged, rigid and ineffective. You could be 80 years old and have more insight and progression than this bunch of ding dongs.
    3. NO direction to the rank and file, NO motivation, NO desire to build a culture that retains and attracts workers who like coming to work each day.
    4. NO office amenities, no perks, no $$$. If you want to die slowly and painfully work here and drink the coolaid. Vision/Irvine deserves NO stars in every category except comps/work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Advice goes to Clear Lake Capt who own Vision-Dump this dog of business. Exec. mgmt team is running this company into the ground and duping you into thinking they are still a solid player in the industry.. Move HQ to Roch Minn--where the workers seem to work well together and have the real vision. All Exec. mgmt needs to be exposed and outed.

    Pros

The company and leadership team have navigated through a lot of change in the past year. Thankfully, Vision has emerged as a more focused and viable force in the IBM marketplace.

    Cons

Like many technology sectors, the marketplace for Vision's offerings is highly competitive.

    Advice to Management
