I worked at Visionworks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In my second store (I worked in one for 4 years and another for 2) it was new enough that we were able to have more intimate interactions with our customers because it was a slower pace.

The rewarding feeling when your patient gets their glasses is indescribable and never got old after 6 years. You truly feel like you're making an impact on someone's life for the good.

    Cons

Zero loyalty in their staff. Cross your fingers that your GM will stand up for you, if not then don't expect to last very long with their unrealistic training system and absurd sales goals. This is the used car salesman of glasses.

I have been working at Visionworks part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Products with the best value. Lenses that you can have confidence in recommending. Decent base pay with alright commissions. Great training program.

    Cons

Long hours at mall locations. Low flexibility with work schedule due to few employees being able to cover other's shifts.

    Advice to Management

Paying 20% above industry standards will decrease turnover and cause employees to self motivate and be accountable to themselves. Increasing pay will also increase your customer satisfaction results.

I have been working at Visionworks full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady job, easy to do, hard to get fired.

    Cons

Not competitive pay, upper management (corporate level) does not listen to anyone at store level.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Pay yourselves less and pay your employees more. When you make a corporate-wide decision, think about everyone it will effect in the long run.

I have been working at Visionworks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You help a lot of people see. They pay time and a half if you work a holiday. You can transfer to many locations in the US.

    Cons

The company doesn't care about your wellbeing. They are not competitive in pay or benefits. Because of low pay, the workforce has very little experience.

    Advice to Management

More payroll hours, service industry requires it.

    Pros

    Glasses benefit is a plus.

    Cons

The corporate office could not care less about its employees. They pay really crumby salaries, especially the Optical Assistants who have to maintain the flow of the office and get screamed at by patients because the Optician or Contact Lens Tech was less than thorough with their job. A blind eye is turned to coworker harassment. I was harassed for a year continuously by the same woman and no one would help me. Not the GM, not the Union reps, not the Corporate Office. I had to sit through it until I could no longer take it and I left. It was very very clear that no one gave a crap about the employees. If they did, someone would have stepped in.

    Advice to Management

Realize that you only have your job because people don't know they have other options for the vision care and needs.

    I worked at Visionworks part-time

    Pros

Good pay, good commission, great discount on glasses.

    Cons

    Hardcore selling tactic.
Made me lie to customers a few times.
Will chew you to the bone because you didn't sell $1,000 pair of glasses to an old lady with no health insurance.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of making your employees actually want to help the patient.

I worked at Visionworks part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learned a lot during my time at Visionworks. Free glasses every year. Great job if you're just starting out or in college

    Cons

Long hours. Low pay. Very competitive. The employees who have been there the longest normally get the sales. Goals every month are hard to reach because of that.

    Pros

Coworkers. Depending on where you are located obtaining true mentors to develop lower management leading to growth potential overall is positive.

    Cons

Plenty of rhetoric not enough innovation. Alas ones ability to perform their job relies on an archaic computer system that can mark you for failure at the store level.

    Advice to Management

So many tools to succeed, so few people higher up who actually apply those tools.

    Pros

Each store has a small number of employees which is great we all treat each other like family. Plenty of room for advancement within the company and a lot of great knowledge to learn.

    Cons

Commission base percentage is horrible, pay is not that great either. There is no balance, the company wants you to have high KPIs and meet goals as a company standard but they do not take the stores monetary intake as a consideration. Our store is very low volume (maybe 5 patients per day) and our individual goals are outrageous.

    Advice to Management

Lead from the front but also know when to get down and dirty with your employees and help when help is needed.
