I have been working at Vista Unified School District part-time

    Pros

Always felt and was treated like an equal, even though I was a substitute teacher. While my children were younger, and not driving, was on their school schedule, which was a bonus.

    Cons

I worked several long term substitute positions for the district (30 days or more). This included doing my own planning, grading, testing, etc. The workload was many times more then a regular subs duty, including work at home every night. The district would not start paying a sub extra long term pay until they were working that position for 30 days. And if the sub took one day off at all after that 30 days (I would be be in a long term position sometimes for 6 months) the district would switch the pay back to the regular sub rate.

    Pros

Very flexible schedule. The perfect job for those who are exploring a career in education or need a between career job. Pays well.

    Cons

No benefits package. Can be a very disorganized hiring process, with inadequate help. Had to submit fingerprints several times, at my own cost.

    Pros

There are no pros at all.

    Cons

Vista Unified did not pay me what they owed me as a substitute teacher. They have now pushed back what they owe me *twice*. Because of them I have had to push back bills and gas.

    Advice to Management

    Be prepared to be sued.
