      Pros

Clean work environment with 12 hours shifts and annual work schedules. Plenty of parking. Educational opportunities if they like you.

      Cons

Everyone out for themselves attitude prevails throughout-very cliquey and line competitive. Corporate management looks down on production staff - after indoctrination there was absolutely no involvement with non-production management whatsoever. Prefer contract workers that they can pay less, offer fewer benefits, and can let go more easily. Required qualifications are difficult to obtain because it is s executed haphazardly and not systematically. Tons of paperwork and signoffs required on an ongoing basis because production involves medical grade device - contact lenses. Fairly solitary work with 2-3 people to a line in 3GT. Loud working environment. Production bonuses were very hard to achieve and were based on line production targets that largely unrealistic. Observed "company" employees vs contract employees have different work experiences and very different benefits. Taking time off can be difficult because higher tenured employees get first choice of days off, Second shift employees have virtually no access to the cafeteria because of required production audits and cafeteria closes in the early evening-get a lunch box and pack a lunch. Culturally, if you want to fit in, take up fishing and hunting. Better yet, own a boat.

      Medical Device Company

      Pros

Exciting New products, Flexible Work Environment, Patient Safety First Culture, Regulatory compliance is important to the culture, Very professional environment. Gives the ability to work independently and to get as more direction as you like. Does a great job of setting company business direction, goals and objectives. Also allows the individual to set their goals and objectives in light of the company's goals.

      Cons

Very political in terms of promotional practices. Tends to make people changes as the hiring manager prefers and lesser so on qualifications. Does not do a good job of promoting from within. If you do not plan on staying longer than 3 to 5 years, I see these as areas that can be overcome and would highly recommend this company.

      Pros

Contact lenses are a commodity now…. So they manufacture and sell = revenue – corporate JnJ tax = job safety as long as you manager level

      Cons

R&D is basically about how many subtle design changes one can make to guess what – contact lenses. There is a little pharma dabbling but it doesn’t ever seem to get far due to poor portfolio management. Jacksonville is an isolated medical device industry so you have to watch out for the entrapment trick that’s used to bait you to move their with premium salaries – once you move your stuck with very little career prospects (promotional) as the management group there is stagnant and top heavy (Same old people, year on year, all fighting for small amounts of money for projects for their groups).

      Pros

Good benefits, salaries, and yearly bonus. Vistakon has some really great people!! Good promotional opportunities for individual with degree.

      Cons

Employees confidence in senior management and the company's future seems to be low. Workloads and expectations of some positions are unbalanced and unreasonable Promotional opportunities; loyalty, hard work, accomplishments, subject matter expert, years in a position all have no weight without a degree.

      Pros

If you come to work and make a difference, this place is for you! One of the top first class organizations left in America with competitive salaries, annual bonus, equal opportunity, and a pension. Yes, I said a pension!

      Cons

The work load at times can be a little much but at least we have business.

      Pros

This is the leader in contact lens R&D and manufacturing where the technology is far ahead of the competition. Working there is challenging and rewarding where work output equals reward. I enjoyed working there and learning the contact lens manufacturing process. Great place to manage working and raising a family. The Jacksonville site is a short 20 minute drive to the beach after work!

      Cons

Typical large Fortune 100 company where there are routine layoffs, excessive paperwork and decision making process is at a glacial pace from R&D to Manufacturing.

      Pros

The people and most people in management really do care about each other and the community they live in.

      Cons

Some of management are very lazy and try to take credit on projects they had nothing to do with. Before team meetings, there were a lot of "can you tell me your progress on the X project so I can share an update" Why would you share an update on my project?
