I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good discount, usually a pretty solid environment.

    Cons

If you get stuck with someone toxic you're in bad shape. Very difficult to get fired, so bad employees stick around.

    Advice to Management

    Fire bad employees.

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Learning the Product Knowledge, helping customers, training employees, employee discount, vacation, personal and sick time, 401K, stock options, health insurance.

    Cons

The turnover rate is so high get ready to work overtime for no extra pay. They don't pay your employees enough for them to stay. Your happiness depends upon your District Manager. Customer support is a disaster and IT may as well be a ghost that gets everything wrong. You will spend half your time dealing with registers and computers that freeze that hinder sales and customer interactions and the other half looking for new people because no one apply's and most of your staff will be incompetent and entitled. Corporate and senior management lies to themselves and never accepts reality until it's too late and the internet and Amazon has taken most of your business and you get blamed. They can't seem to get any company initiatives right, there are always glitches, and the incentives are corny and out of reach mostly. It's very political and you will be subject to verbal abuse depending on who is around. How long can they lie to themselves and just try to justify their jobs until the stock price plummets into the negatives? They don't know how to compete and advertising misses the mark. Horrible communication.

    Pros

If you're passionate about helping others change their lives to combat a medical issue or prevent it then you can do that here.
You'll have customers come and praise you and thank you for helping change their life.
     Discount on Private Brand
The joy of helping others through natural products

    Cons

No work life balance, only closed twice a year on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Has to work off hours which you can't start shipment and any other tasks until 8pm and the store closes at 9pm.
In my market with the Market Manager we had, we had conference cals daily sometimes twice a day. Money driven company.
Low pay for the amount of work you do

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

helping customers find the right product for there needs, making plan. I don't even mind the work

    Cons

Upper management does not know how to promote with in. I have been with this company for a long time. I been through so much. They will make someone jump through hoops to get promoted, but yet they will hire from the outside from the company and get who trains them ASM's. I have always wanted to get promoted. But now I am changing my mind. In fact after the Jan 1st I will be looking for a new job.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to those who been with the company for 9 or more years. We are loyal and you guys don't see it. That's why a lot of folks leave. In most places you don't have to go through so much drama just to get promoted. Your lost

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

40% Vitamin Shoppe Brands & 20% off everything else

    Cons

I'm considered full time yet I don't get full time hours.
I work at a high volume store with not enough hours, we run on a 3 person team every day.
Customers think we are doctors, when we receive little to no actual training.
    No support from upper management.
    PTO sucks and sick time
Also if you aren't getting a bunch of Auto Delivery sign ups, you are doomed.

    Advice to Management

Pay more if you're going to have such HIGH expectations.
Don't give a store that averages $4,000 a day the same amount of hours as one that only does $1,500

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

i personally work with an incredible team, but you may not be so lucky

fun work environment (used to be much more so)

you learn a great deal about nutrition, supplementation, sales, etc

potential to really have great interactions with customers and make great connections if you're interested in health and wellness

potential to truly help people live happier healthier lives

    Cons

poor upper mgmt that creates tons of extra busy work and treats stores like children in regards to new failed initiatives we are all supposed to push

the pay is definitely not great unless you work at a store in a higher income/volume area

you could love your coworkers, you could hate them

    Advice to Management

Differentiate, don't jump on the bandwagon of everyone else in the industry. Spend some money on proper advertising...tv, radio, online, etc....

Stop spending money on cheap cardboard cutouts and "weekly sales" that do not interest customers in the least.

Give more gratitude and compensation for employees, instead of adding new things for us to constantly push...i.e. more work...less discounts... for the exact same pay

you have many intelligent people working in your stores that are running this company...why not show interest in our opinion? not all stores all the same, we work in different socioeconomic areas, and that should be taken into consideration aside from just "sales predictions"

we are all laughing at the absolutely horrible shift this company has taken....
