I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun job, if you are into supplements that always helps. You are salaried at 45 hours a week and there is never to much going on.

    Cons

When it comes to performing corrective actions it can be difficult. You give people too many chances and then your staff gets upset with you.

    Advice to Management

Slow down with the change. There is a lot changing and it is making store managers edgy. They are the right changes, just a lot at once.

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discounts on health food items and supplements, knowledge of new products, tons of resources for research on health trends and scientific studies

    Cons

Lots of silly and tedious tasks sent from higher ups, lack of trust in employee word versus a customer, even one time shoppers over multiple year employees

    Advice to Management

Ask for more feedback from ALL employees. Not just store managers

I have been working at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a really fun place to work and the customers see that and enjoy shopping there. The prices and selection are better than the competition. There isn't as much pressure to sell as some of the other competition (which I have also worked). We sell what the customer needs and not just to sell. The changes that the company is working on is really exciting, I can't wait to see what is next. They also are very into educating all health enthusiasts with constant information on the newest products and the annual Product Education Conference for all managers.
Work/life balance is great, they really work with your requests off and try to make it fair for everyone. This can vary by store, based on management.

    Cons

The pay could be a little better. I understand they don't want to create that competitive environment that commission causes, but the bonus structure could be based on sales so that we had an opportunity to make more money by selling more. The way they bonus structure is now is based on your salary for the month, which means the bonus will always be the same, and for anything below manager, is not much.
I have also seen quite a few people being passed up for promotions for people hired from outside. I would like to see more internal promotions for those of us that would like to move up in the company.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work in trying to be the innovators of the industry and staying ahead of the curve, but also take a look at the bonus structure for managers and see if there is a way to reward us for higher sales.
