I worked at Vitamin Shoppe (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Discounts on products are quite good. Benefits are generous.

    Cons

Poor Strategic Vision by senior management. Sales are poor but senior management says it's changing. Great deal of nepotism. Money are resources are allocated to those in the "in" crowd.

I worked at Vitamin Shoppe full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Healthy Environment. Different culture than most retail.

    Cons

Only 30% of stores make their sales goal. And if you don't then no budget. What an unethical greedy company to set up a system stacked against you. Also, the majority of times as store manger you are on the register, putting out shipment, or complete the tons of tasks the company wants. For a store manager, this is the bottom of the barrel and retail hell!

    Advice to Management

Grow a conscience! Stop swindling the bonus out of your retail employees by setting unrealistic sales goals!

    Pros

Nothing was good about this company.

    Cons

Everything was just so bad. Nothing you do will ever be good in management's eyes.

    Advice to Management

Vitamin Shoppe was micromanaged way too much by the assistant managers (there were 4 in the store) while the manager just sits back and make everyone do the work.

    Pros

Great knowledge about the health and wellness field. If you're really curious about these things, this jobs a great intro.

    Cons

Very awful pay. Exceptions are exaggerated and its turning into more about the sale and not about the quality of customer service.

I worked at Vitamin Shoppe full-time

    Pros

Fun work environment. Not a hard job at all by any means. Great like minded staff. Good 401K plan. Good support system if you're into a healthier/athletic lifestyle.

    Cons

Very stingy with OT. Tough scheduling fairly at times with such low payroll available which limits amount of hours everyone is given.

    Advice to Management

Management will vary store to store, but upper management needs to learn to be more flexible with hours and actually give decent pay raises. They're stingy at times and that certainly cuts into your pay potential.
