      Great experience!

      Pros

There was a lot of support through upper management and a great raining program. I loved the continued training seminars that they were putting together, it helped keep the staff at the store level on the same page with what upper management expected. I loved learning all the different health topics and enjoyed making a difference in people's health from day to day. Overall, it was a very pleasant environment.

      Cons

When I left my biggest complaint was the inconsistency and constant change in policies from the constant change of upper management and executive officers. I could see where they were trying to go with everything, but the over bearing pressure on us at the store level from everything changing above us made it very difficult to be comfortable in our work environment. The change in some of our benefits was a little disheartening too.

It wasn't horrible, great part time gig.

      Pros

Flexible hours depending on the mall location. Occasionally, commission was raised for select products or holiday periods. The best part about it was by far the 75% discount on the 50% mark up products. Made sure employees were given opportunity to learn about the products sold.

      Cons

Base commission was low. Upper management unwilling to higher employees when needed. Often hired individuals with no prior knowledge of any product sold by the company. Product information was provided but no continuing education on the vast array of supplements employees are expected to sell. Only felt the need to inform employees further when the product was extremely overpriced and was beneficial to the companies failing financial situation. Treated employees poorly from upper management and gave no concern to employees time.

Great place to work if you care about being healthy.

      Pros

You can make great money for the amount of work you have to do if you have product knowledge and selling skills. Alot of the reviews on here make vitamin world seem like a terrible place but it's quite the opposite I've been here for 5 years now and have managed 2 different stores and loved both of them. If you do your job upper management is friendly if not you are going to hear about it. Flexible scheduling and good bonuses of you can actually hit them are also perks. There's a great employee discount and health benefits and paid time off. The staff you how as a manager will make our break you and your store.

      Cons

The computer systems are terrible. They have been stuck in the stone ages forever. It's bad when customers comment on how old your registers are. Once you really start doing well sales goals go up very high very quickly. Changes in commission didn't seem fair. Alot of things that they do don't seem to make sense at a store level. Lack of communication from upper management and it doesn't seem like they take recommendations or concerns to heart.

Horrendous upper management, unskilled, and unintelligent business manuevers

      Jan 14, 2014 - Store Manager

      Pros

Employees, and coworkers are all on the same team against the stuipidity of upper management. Steep discount Some customers you can build friendships with. As a manager you set your own schedule. As an employee you can get a very flexible schedule, depending on your manager.

      Cons

Nights and weekends are the majority of your shifts. Upper management has impossibly high standards, they dart around for the best possible sale to make them money, going so far as canceling a sale after 1 day because they were losing money on it. All they care about is getting the customer to spend 300 dollars. Any values they say they have is a lie driven by money. It's an atmosphere of "you're a constant failure and you have to keep getting better even though you'll still be a failure when you get better." Manager's get incredibly poor pay even though they drive 80% of the business and keep up with 100% of the work. After reaching Store Manager title there is essentially 0 opportunity for going anywhere else. Dead end job. The only reason cultures and values isn't a 1 star is because the team working with customers in the store genuinely care about helping the customers and generally(I only worked in 3 stores, I don't know everyone's motives) will not mislead you or misguide you in making a decision. All in all, this place will suck you dry of any ambitions and motivations and leave you hating going to work and hating dealing with customers and upper management.

      Stay away at all costs

      Pros

Great discount on merchandise and holiday pay for full time employees.

      Cons

They flat out lie to you in the interview process about realistic compensation. They'll claim an extra 5 or 6 dollars per hour based on potential commission based income, more like 2 dollars extra per hour. The upper management is clueless as none of them have worked in a retail store environment. They threaten your job if their unrealistic sales goals are not met. Work there, expect to get talked down to in the most demeaning fashion possible. Zero organization from District Managers and Regional Managers. They operate their management off the fear management system and refuse to deal with employees as adults. This company is losing customers left and right and will not lower goals or make the actual intelligent business decision to invest money in advertising.

      Former Employee

      Pros

-The job is easy -The customers are mostly great -The Employee discount is very good -If you are in a high volume store with little competition, life is gravy

      Cons

-2 years of out of stock issues and it hasn't been fixed -The chances of anyone advancing beyond store manager are very low - they hire their friends or former colleagues for upper management -The corporate culture blames the front-line associate for all of the company's problems -The mystery shop is so complicated that mystery shoppers cannot get it right - there are differences of opinion on almost every shop -They want associates to collect customer emails. This allows Vitamin World online to offer "Online Exclusive" deals which are better than the in-store sale -They are at least 6 months behind with getting new products. Their competitors do not mess around and take 6 months to get these products that many people want -They keep deleting products that sell and replace them with low quality, high margin products -They believe in salesmanship over quality products -They cannot and will not take advice from front-line employees

      Pros

The company provided on going training Supported quality of work life balance (allowable with retail hours) Great discounts and promotions for products

      Cons

No room for movement unless you move out of the state since the stores are not positioned closely nor is advancement possible for the same reasons, not alot of upper management turn over, stores to far away to commute reasonably. It isn't a high paying industry across the board but they continued to take away commissions and made bonuses unattainable with outrageous yearly goal increases.

Industry in decline. Upper management will be dishonest to any hire just to recruit a sales person.

      Pros

Good associate discount 40-75% off depending in product. Good healthcare.

      Cons

Associates are put under a lot of pressure to keep numbers up in a company where store front retail is dying off. You will not make the amount of sales they may make it seem like you will in this commission based job. There is just no foot traffic coming into these stores anymore because the vitamin industry is changing and it has become way more economical for people to buy from online vendors. There is a high turnover rate for employees because of the dishonest hiring system. I don't believe that the wages are fair based on the amount of knowledge required to do well in this job and the diminishing customer base. Don't trust promises made by upper management, they tend to "forget" these, and will exaggerate many things just to get a new recruit (mostly because someone is always leaving once they get wise to the truth about this place). Expect a lower salary than promised and lots of unnecessary micromanagement.
