I worked at Vivísimo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Vivisimo was small enough that you knew everyone, but still large enough to do a decent business. They must have been doing something right, because IBM acquired them in 2012.

    Cons

If I had to give one negative, it would be that some of the people working there had never really worked anywhere else, so didn't have much experience doing things differently.

    Advice to Management

There's no real need to give advice to the management team because they sold the company to IBM in 2012 for a pretty good price, so I guess they knew what they were doing.

I worked at Vivísimo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - overall great culture - free lunch fridays, free yoga, game nights, group events, ability to work from home, flex schedule
    - incredible learning experience with a really supportive environment for technical growth
    - the product itself was complex but there was a great internal system for documenting different tips and tricks. There was a definite culture of knowledge sharing where everyone helped each other learn and improve which was unlike anything i've seen elsewhere.

I wish every startup was like this!

    Cons

-wasn't much room to advance from certain positions

    Advice to Management

    none, acquired by IBM

    Pros

    Good pay and bonus structure.
Great benefits and perks(free lunch fridays, discounted gym, and free yoga).
    Amazing people.
    Great location.

One of the best companies to work for. I had a great boss---I could question/critique any decision of his. My team was a rare combination of very smart AND nice people. Everyone else(outside my team) also were nice and capable people. I got considerable project responsibilities only three-months into my job, and was give a lot of freedom in how I do my job. I'd definitely recommend Vivisimo as a workplace.

    Cons

Learning curve of the product was HUGE when I came in.
It was difficult to find product-related information(I did not know where to look/who to ask).
Had to work with XSLT and some legacy products.

    Advice to Management

This is to all management, and not just to Reston:
Continue what you are doing with the new product effort.
    Communication is always good.

    Pros

The company is transitioning from enterprise search to Information Optimization. Although not an easy challenge it has been doing a great job of iterating through this transition.

    Cons

With the company's new strategy there is substantial change. It is being worked through in a reasonable manner, but change can always be difficult for some to accept.

    Advice to Management

Increase the amount of communication to the team. During times of change you can never over communicate.
