I worked at Vivint Smart Home full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, free lunch, nice people

    Cons

Way to much bureaucracy, when you develop a change you have to get approval from business, manager, a code review, a DBA, a security admin, a QA, a devops, and sometimes other managers. Which makes it very frustrating, you keep developing features that never make it to production because getting that many people in line is not easy, and management keeps bringing projects with higher priority, therefore things "fall... through the cracks"... There is also lots of tech debt but since it is so hard to get everyone in line and business doesn't care as long as the developer can keep cleaning up the issues via production support then it is not important for them, which makes it very frustrating for the developer. Zero access to any environment, not even development, you have to chase a devops admin to set every single item for you, and since they are blasted with work from all over the company, then a lot of times things are not done correctly and leave you wondering what went wrong... Very difficult to work or get things done when you can't see what is going on behind the scenes. At least they should stop being jail keepers and let developers access the dev environment.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the red tape / bureaucracy (All the approvals issue). Give full access to the dev environments to the developers for them to configure with perhaps devops help when needed, but don't make devops just jail keepers.

    Pros

Free lunch voucher for every 8 hours worked but they don't tell you the voucher will be taxed until you are in training.

    Cons

Open 24/7; you will have to work weekends and holidays. Generally afternoon and evening shifts are available. The morning shifts are hard to come by.

    Advice to Management

Be more upfront about what the training/position entails. It sounds like a lovely job until you start the training then the horse whipping begins.
