I worked at Vodafone full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are very nice - but in some ways many seem to have Stockholm Syndrome

    Cons

NYC office is a rotation - essentially a place to learn for many

I have been working at Vodafone full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Global company gives you the perceived exposure to international roles.

    Cons

Too many layers and corporate governance. No investment in good people. Attitude towards poor moral is to go somewhere you will be happy.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your values employees. You are loosing good people by not showing value in them

I worked at Vodafone full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some products (if they can be delivered) have promise. A few internal employees carry the weight of the organization.

    Cons

Politics of the workplace lend towards a "blame culture." Lack of direction and focus is apparent and even less communication downwards. Training of staff doesn't extend below F band level - the meessage is "if you aren't F band there is no investment in you to become future management." Internal "boys club" mentality insures promotions only for the select few.

    Advice to Management

The employee survey is not an indication of what is going on - you need to tune in and get close to your staff. Time to change up some of the E band management as their ideals don't fit in today's business world needs. Need to become more dynamic and less 'centralized process' - its choking off the true creativity that will push you forward.

    I worked at Vodafone full-time

    Pros

pay is decent, interview process portrays a great work environment
the actual employees are very nice as they all go through a psychological test; they like people who they think can be puppets

    Cons

The Devil Loves Prada meets the Stepford Wives
    the owners are micromanagers
    the owners are bullies
you can't have a mind of your own if you work here
you have to be a robot
processes, paperwork are more important than people
people go in and cringe about working there
you can't take a break outside of the building (its looked down upon)
    demotivating management
unfair practices against anyone with a medical condition, pregnancy, they don't like old people, they don't have any black people working there, single moms

    Advice to Management

their egos are too big to take advice

    I worked at Vodafone full-time

    Pros

Salary and benefit used to be above average. But with the sales of Verizon Wireless stake, these are going down.

    Cons

-US business is mismanaged. Hired a lot of people then suddenly let many go and even office shutdown because of Newbury's zero based budgeting, an annual process to cut labor costs due to revenue and profit pressure after sales of Verizon wireless stake and pricing war everywhere.
-Operation centers on high cost NYC area although pricing and margin keep going down, forcing downsizing in other US locations.
-Lack of teamwork almost everywhere around the global company, perhaps due to high workload. Relying on personal relationship to get things done. Upper level managers not directly reported to are generally not responsive.
-Very bureaucratic at the mid to upper level management. Process improvement and necessary tools for work took forever to be in place.
-Company culture likes check and balance. So G band employee typically got overwhelmed but many F band are looking over the shoulder without much contribution.
No respect for work and life balance. Employees got praised for working over the weekend, however, many such overtime could have been avoided with proper manager planning or coordinating.
    High employee turnaround.

    Advice to Management

Good strategy and planning are top priority. Cost cutting needs come from everywhere not only closing down office or pink slip as a result of miserable management.

    Pros

Big name , good culture , good building and benefits

    Cons

no good promotion packages. The more you work the less you get . Promotions are preserved to certain people by upper managment . HR doesnt play a real role in promoting employees, or checking their rights of upgrading positions

    Advice to Management

change the rules. stop upper managment corruptions by providing promotions to only certain pple that you chose in advance

I worked at Vodafone full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Travel to the UK. Good pay. Worked remote from home. Financially strong company. Great products and services.

    Cons

HR was the worst - the company used Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) to get rid of good employees management didn't like. My manager and Americas executive management were the pits. UK had almost double the amount of holidays and time-off as the Americas team.

    Advice to Management

Take some people skills classes and be more appreciative of your non-management employees.

    Pros

I had a great bunch of guys to work with, all remote from the corporate offices. All of had previous experience doing support of security or enterprise level products.

    Cons

The company has a code of conduct that spells out that harassment will not be tolerated. Seems that is only applicable to within the company. Even if the other company has the same code of conduct there appears to be the thought that we can't call the customer on their code of conduct to stop harassment of our employees. Fear of losing the contract.

    Advice to Management

a really stupid situation. The group was quickly brought together in violation of Vodafone policies concerning in country upper management. Who created this mess? What are you going (or have done) about this? How are you going to prevent this from happening again?

    Pros

A lot of opportunity abroad, but must work the CEO's way - Success with customers and fellow employees not enough to do well in America.

    Cons

Can't trust any promises from Americas CEO, even if in writing.

    Advice to Management

Change Leadership - No trust - It is all a show that looks good from across the pond.
