I have been working at Vollrath full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Focused on family and allows for flexibility with kids and life. Big cultural initiative to make it an even better place to work. Good pay and benefits with onsite clinic. The best part about Vollrath is that you become part of the team from day 1 and everyone is eager to see you succeed and learn throughout your career. Folks here are more than willing to offer up their expertise to better you personally and professionally. There is a lot of heritage with this company and the pride is easily noticeable no matter which department you are in.

    Cons

With any job there are cons but they tend to be more personal in nature so my biases should not sway your own personal feelings on different aspects of the job. The only way you would know this is to be in a specific position and develop your own opinion. Get expectations up front and look at the pros list as an upside.

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting that this is a great place to start your career.

I have been working at Vollrath full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I work in the accounting department - have had good opportunities and exposure to upper management. If I am interested in projects, I've been able to get involved. The work environment is supportive and friendly.

Management has been promoting within - three internal promotions happened recently as there was turn over in the department. The turn over got rid of some bad attitudes and some actually moved to other opportunities in the company. The culture is improving as the company is implementing a new culture initiative, but it wasn't that bad before - now you just see a few more people being deliberate about it.

Overall, this is a good place to come and work every day. There are opportunities to work on projects, there's a continuous improvement mentality as the team always looks for better ways of accomplishing things, and there's a good work life balance.

    Cons

Nothing significant to highlight as a Con.

    Advice to Management

Love the new culture initiative, continue the communication meetings quarterly and the lunches with the CEO. It's nice to be able to have that contact and hear from upper management.

    I worked at Vollrath full-time

    Pros

There is nothing that I can think of.

    Cons

First impressions are misleading. Be careful of some managers and HR. Keep your problems to yourself. The ones who care can't do anything about it. The ones who should care don't do anything about it. Be prepared to be overworked, underpaid, and mistreated.

    Advice to Management

Be open, transparent and honest with your employees. If you want to truly change the culture for the better it starts by being authentic. Telling lies or withholding the truth kills morale. Start caring about people because people with names, families, feelings work for your organization not robots. Treat them with the respect and care they deserve and your organization will flourish. Disrepect them and treat them poorly you will lose them. Happy employees are productive employees. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go back and read what Terry Kohler wrote in his letter to new employees. That should remind you of what this organization should stand for and what they should not stand for.

    Cons

Be careful which department you work for. Some of the managers are not good to work for and give no opportunity for advancement. Careful of the accounting department.

    Advice to Management

They are trying to change things which is good but remember you can not change a person's personality.
