    Pros

A lot to learn, faced paced and a great experience if you can manage it. You can use this experience in some other places and get more money

    Cons

People are treated like "items in inventory". Not too many opportunities to grow, management is very unsupportive

    Advice to Management

Treat like not like you would like to be treated but like they want to be treated.

I worked at Volt Information Sciences full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent motels provided. Other than that there isn't much else to say. They do not show much concern for the places where you are staying. Waiting until the VERY last minute to provide lodging.

    Cons

TERRIBLE management. Was told on numerous occasions that the job I was doing was just fine. Even sent a couple of trainers down to help out as I was tossed into the Lead Technician position with NONE of the training that the other leads were afforded. THEN, after six weeks on the job, we FINALLY got to go home. With the caveat that we left our schedules completely open for two weeks while plans were set in place for Phase 2. This was SUPPOSED to be a time to go and do a few break-fix jobs locally as you were to be at their beck and call. Well, after two full weeks with NO calls for service I tried to find out what was going on. Only to be told that there "wasn't going to be a phase 2".....which I did find out later was a bunch of bull. These supposed "managers" didn't even have the GUTS to tell me that I wouldn't be needed on the rest of the project. They just let me figure that out for myself. I wouldn't walk across the street to work for these people again.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming others for YOUR lack of training abilities. DON'T just toss someone into a position and expect them to immediately live up to your expectations when even the "Project Manager" won't even discuss the situation in regards to questions about the job.

On the PLUS side....I would like to THANK the members of management for NOT getting back to me for well over six months when I emailed, REPEATEDLY, about returning their laptop. I must say it has come in VERY handy as a WORK TOOL on other jobs I have had since. Your loss, my gain. Thanks for that.

I worked at Volt Information Sciences full-time

    Pros

There are a few really wonderful people that work at Volt. I worked for them for 10 years the first time and 8 years the second time. The first time was a great work experience. The second time, not so much.

    Cons

No room for advancement in my job. I had the worst manager I have ever worked for which made my 8 years there pretty miserable. I was never given an opportunity to lead the team in any way, even though they all came to me for help. The expectations for the job were in some respects ridiculous because it was subjective in terms of additional information required for proposals. I used to love Volt, but, my last few years the company was steadily going down hill. Costs were cut so tight that we only received 2% increases every other year. Nothing was done to appreciate employees except a picnic in the parking lot and Christmas lunch in the lobby. Pretty sad.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like they matter. Respect is key and something I felt was lacking from my manager as well as her boss. Allow people to grow and spread their wings by giving them responsibility. TRAIN YOUR MANAGERS TO BE MANAGERS. Mine was horrible. She had zero experience as a manager when she started and proved her lack of experience on a daily basis. She was my manager for 7 of the 8 years, and I never once saw her attend any training, and if she did, it never showed. She showed favoritism to certain people and let the others just sit in the side lines no matter how much they wanted to do something to stand out from the group. I've been gone over a year and I'm still haunted by my experience there.
