    Pros

Volt's diversified client list allows field employees a variety of job opportunities. Clients may range from the local mom and pop shop to a fortune 50 client. Field employees have the ability to work with the latest cutting edge technologies allowing them to continue building their resume. Volt has a good track record of redeploying field employees to new assignments. Pay rates are always market competitive. Contract lengths are typically 6-12 months in duration. Many of their clients will actually offer the field employee full time employment after the contract period is completed.

Volt-in-house employees are always given a chance for upward mobility. Sales and recruiting partner to meet client goals. Volt promotes from within. I have always had an open door policy with my boss. I have not seen a lot of attrition from the FTE's. Most of the people who work on my team have been with Volt for over 10 years. Senior leadership mentor the less experienced employees.

    Cons

Contract work is not for everyone. Because of the nature of contracting, an assignment is not always possible.

Working in the staffing industry can be a challenge. As the economy struggles many companies implement hiring freezes. Work/Life balance can be challenging at times. When big projects pop up you will be expected to step up to the plate, but you will be rewarded for your work.

    Advice to Management

Continue to recognize the hard work of the people under your guidance. Continue to promote from within.

    Pros

Through Volt, I was able to secure four long-term contracts with Microsoft over about 3 and a half years. From the time I first contacted Volt until I completed my final contract, the staff was always friendly, professional and supportive. My Volt rep approached his job with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic. I was also please with the benefits package Volt offered. Though I paid for half of my health insurance premiums, I felt it was very fair given the hourly rate I was earning. If you've got the skills and a professional, friendly business approach, you can earn a very good living.

    Cons

Working on contract means you need to be flexible to available opportunities. You can't always expect to land a "perfect" contracting position. I worked at Microsoft as a Volt contractor. Some teams were great to work with at Microsoft, some were not. Depending on the economy, you may be unemployed for a time before any contract positions are available that fit with your experience.

    Advice to Management

Even as a contract employee, I appreciate that you valued me as a member of the team.
