I worked at Voltage Advertising for less than a year

    Pros

People there are extremely friendly, welcoming, and willing to help you out with anything. Great office environment. They also provide unlimited snacks and sodas.

    Cons

    None I can think of.

    Advice to Management

Keep being a Fource for Good. I wouldn't change a thing about my time at Voltage. I

    Pros

Fun and diverse projects to work on

    Cons

Upper management doesn't seem to have a clear path on how to move the company forward. Pay is definitely not competitive.

I worked at Voltage Advertising full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

VOLTAGE was a good place to work for a while. We felt like we were building a good process and a good team, and working towards our goals. We had some cool work peppered in with production work. The "family friendly" vibe meant rarely working weekends or late nights, and everyone there is a generally nice person. The dev team is particularly strong at their craft. I think everyone's heart is basically in the right...

    Cons

Top management doesn't listen. They ask your opinion all the time, but whether it's selective hearing or an unwillingness to turn feedback into action, change doesn't actually happen. There's a ton of talk -- sometimes years of it -- about what the company's soul is (dev shop? creative shop? consulting? etc.) but because of a lack of commitment to any particular vision or action plan at the top, it just feels like they're...

    Advice to Management

VOLTAGE needs bold action to fix the current climate there. I'm talking a change in C-level leadership. A clear vision and a commitment to a plan for what the company is and what that means. And when you hire talented people, don't just ignore their perspectives until they get frustrated and quit - you hired them for their expertise, and they can help build the company back to something as good or better than was before.

I worked at Voltage Advertising full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the side projects can be fun. I really liked my co-workers at the time. Life balance was good, not so much anymore one day work from home a week.

    Cons

Eric is a free spirit type that will have a million wackado creative ideas, which is fun, but also can be controlling, yet unclear on feedback, and derails almost all projects. There will be a million changes, and most of the time you are picking projects up last minute when he gets bored and wants to move to something else. The files you get from him are giant messes. Side projects usually don't go anywhere either. Eric...

    Advice to Management

Transparency is needed. There are a lot of times when changes to projects would come from the top that were not well thought out and it really left projects in a place that wasn't great for Voltage or the client. Leadership should work on being able to be challenged without someone being fired, let go, or just shut down. The people hired should be trusted to do their job. Not just work as cogs to push the buttons...

I worked at Voltage Advertising full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great coworkers while they were still around

    Cons

Senior Management was "focused on the work we had" instead of filling the pipeline with valuable work resulting in sudden layoffs when reality set in that the pipeline was dry. Company wide round table one week states everything is moving up and we have a plan to next week needing to layoff staff. Lost or let go more than 20 people (60%+ of staff) in a years time. CEO made equity and partner promises to director...

    Advice to Management

Remove the current management from day to day operations and hire a people focused, sincere individual as Managing Director that's capable of motivating staff and sticking to a business plan.

I worked at Voltage Advertising full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great work-life balance. One work from home day a week. Dogs allowed in the office. Non-management employees are great people. Pay can be decent if you really fight for it.

    Cons

No matter what carrots are dangled... don't work here. Management is the biggest thing standing in the way of this company. There is no clear business plan and no clear vision from the president and the CEO. Any plan or vision that gets mentioned is quickly dashed in favor of something flashier.. or just because the CEO gets bored. The president clearly only cares about the development portion of the business and...

    Advice to Management

Pick a realistic goal, set a tangible vision, and stick to it. Listen to your employees. Like actually listen, don't just go through the motions. Find away to remove the religion-based favoritism. Stop waffling and learn how to make difficult decisions. And trust your employees to do the job you hired them for.

I worked at Voltage Advertising full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Voltage is a growing agency with some really talented people. There's a lot going on and it always seems that they raise the bar every year on what they can do. Being inducted into SODA was a huge honor. Eric is a really inspiring and fun boss to have. He brings an energy to the office that nobody else has been able to replicate. He works so hard to keep this ship running that I can't imagine he isn't always exhausted....

    Cons

It's not clear how to advance in the company. There is a structure on paper but the reality of it is that there are a few people in charge and everyone else is kind of organized into a flat hierarchy. You really have to go out of your way to take on new roles and responsibilities if you want to get anywhere. Which can be especially hard since you'll wind up wearing more hats but not always getting compensated for your...

    Advice to Management

Figure out if you want to be a dev shop that offers creative consulting or if you really want to be a full service agency that does more than design e-commerce templates. You've got the talent, you just need to take that leap to the next level.

    Pros

Family friendly culture with great hours and a fairly laid back work environment. An incredible creative and outgoing CEO who immediately livens up the office.

    Cons

Young company that's still figuring it's identity out. They're still solidifying internal processes for on boarding new clients and projects, as well as work flow.

    Advice to Management

They could spend more time investing in their employees

Great place to work, very creative environment. You'll be surrounded by geniuses in design, development and copywriting. Pays developers very well.

    Cons

It is an agency, so you'll be busy. Which in its self can be a great thing because of the experience you'll get.
